190e expert advice needed

Instead of buying an S211 E55 AMG, I will more than likely end up getting a E320 CDI as my daily driver.

So that would leave me a couple of grand for a weekend car/ project.
Trawling the internet I came across this and was wondering does it need a new tailgate if I took that spoiler off?

I'm not looking for perfection, moreso a car that runs and drives that may need a couple of bits doing to restore it to former glories...

Also, which would the panel recommend? The 2.5 or the 2.3?

Its in Aberdeenshire dude! You could probably replace that spoiler with the standard Cosworth one- which you want to do to keep the car original. The weak spot on these cars is the valve timing gear which is expensive to rebuild when worn [ which it often is!] think 4 figures and the early tubular exhaust manifold which has a tendency to fracture at the flanges.

I don't mind where they are if they are worth travelling for.

Although I sort of forgot that Aberdeen is about a 6 hour drive from Yorkshire
