when in slow traffic, car will go upto the max line of 120temp then traffic starts moving, the fan does not appear to be kicking in, have change thermostat and tested it recently, any ideas

Update :

Pulled the wire off the switch and tested by shorting the connector and the fan engaged, so it seems the switch has gone faulty, does anyone know the part number for a replacement, car is 1989, 2.0E

I hesitate to give a definitive answer as there is a bewildering series of options on these. straight 2 pin = fan switch or 3 pin= fan switch plus switch for A/C fan or 3 pin =fan switch plus temperature sensor for the instruments. Further complicated by possibly only 3 pin types now available - "fan only" connector cars just use 2 of the pins. Best to order from your MB dealer using your chassis no. That way you will get a sensor 2 or 3 pin that will do the job! 2.0 Automatic Cooling fan sensor
