190e Windscreen wanted

There are a few companies that will do windscreens of course, but would prefer, if possible, for it to say Mercedes on it.

Yes I spotted that one earlier today.

Also try Frau Benz , Jasmine breaks classic Mercedes and may have a windscreen

I am led to believe Mercedes will manufacture w201 windscreens to order using the original moulds if they do not have any in stock. Someone on another forum i frequent paid £320 for a new made to order w201 screen back in 2021 via the main MB dealer in Northampton.
I didn’t think Mercedes manufactured their own glass though?

No idea. Just relaying what someone else in need of a w201 screen posted on another motoring forum 4 years ago. The main dealer that got the original screen for them was MB Milton Keynes.

Back at the time of the W201 the original glass was made by Sekurit , and as supplied to M-B also had the three pointed star etched in .

If you went to aftermarket companies they could supply OEM Sekurit glass but without the M-B logo .

I believe that more recently M-B glass is made by Pilkington .

A few years ago , I needed a windscreen for my R129 , but Autoglass , who were my insurer's supplier of choice had none in stock nor could provide a date for supply . The issue was that my MOT was due in about 4 weeks and without a screen replacement my car would have had to go off the road until one could be obtained .

I went to M-B in Glasgow , who could obtain a screen at significant cost but were not willing to fit it themselves . I managed to find a local windscreen place who , with agreement of my insurers , ordered the screen from M-B ( who apparently only had two in stock in Germany ) and fitted it for me , billing to my insurers , less my excess which I paid to them . They commented at the time it was a while since they had done one .

I also got a screen fitted to my last 190 by Autoglass , who came to my workplace and fitted it in the car park , all easy enough . Although the car was a late model LE , I wasn't so precious about it as to insist on a genuine M-B screen , knowing it was only ever a stone hit away from needing replaced again , although that never happened .

These screens are bonded in and can’t really be removed and refitted. You’d never get it out without damage and it would be covered with old adhesive too.

Not to mention an old screen is likely to be scratched to oblivion by the panoramic wiper and peppered with stone chips!
