1980 Mercedes 450SL fast idle

Can any member recommend a workshop in the Manchester area that has expertise on these old Mercs.

Most garages seem to be more familiar with modern cars and if it does not have a computer they are stumped.

It will probably have the Bosch D-jetronic injection system which was also found on early BMW ,Porsche , Volkswagen and Volvo. They all share common features so its likely that a good specialist in these marques in your locality might also be able to help? May widen your choice slightly. This is an excellent introductory series of articles on the technology.

The first thing is to check for vacuum leaks, split vacuum hoses etc....

1980 would be K-Jet.

As above, but also try leaks from the injector seals (they're rubber and go hard), take the air cleaner off, and spray brake cleaner or something flammable where they sit when the engine is running. If you have a leak you will hear a change in pitch. Obviously be careful not to start a fire......
