Hi,

my '88 190 (carb model) is making a strange rumbling sound when i execute left hand turns, sounds a bit like a wheel bearing thats gone (but it isnt), theres a slight virabation in the steering when it happens but not much and no sound coming from outside the car.

I cant see anything obviously loose or broken and I'm a bit stumped to be honest.

Could it be something like engine mounts perhaps? The car has 103K miles on it. Rocking the car and bouncing it when stationary makes no strange noises/squeaks etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Neil

I know what that is my friend, happened to me on my ex 190. Its the steering drop arm hitting the exhaust. Either due to as you suspect engine mountings or your exhaust has slipped on the manifold.

Could be a ball joint on the way out, have you jacked up the car too see if there is any free play in the steering?

thanks for the replies guys, i'l check both those things this week.

This should be in a different section, moving...
