Somewhat reluctantly for sale is my 1989 500sec AMG widebody. I purchased the car in early February last year and have since spent a small fortune (£5,490), in addition to the work listed I have also swapped out both of the burr walnut panels that had milked with age & replaced these with replacements that are like new.
Work undertaken in my ownership:
13-Jan-2012 (£1,120.00) Ebay - Original AMG widebody Pentas.
11-Feb-2012 (£71.40) Mercedes - Benz Brooklands Wheel locks.
Feb-2012 (£900) Ian Taylor Body Repairs, Horley - Removal of non-AMG .spoiler, removal of headlight wipers, other minor works.
Mar-2012 (£275) The SEC Shop, Kemsing, Sevenoaks - Service.
29-May-2012 (£699) Surrey Performance Exhausts, Wallington - Full stainless steel system from base of front pipe.
30-May-2012 (£271.64) Luke Burroughs (Independent), Surrey - Supply & Fit new rear brake discs & pads. MOT.
07-Jul-2012 (£93.63) ATS - New battery.
07-Jul-2012 (£226.36) Mercedes-Benz Brooklands - Number plates & AMG centre caps.
18-Aug-2012 (£408) Wicked Wheels, Crawley - Refurbish AMG Pentas.
23-Oct-2012 (£65.66) Luke Burroughs (Independent), Surrey - Supply & Fit new fan belt.
08-Jan-2013 (£246.62) Luke Burroughs (Independent), Surrey - Supply & Fit new front brake discs & pads.
04-Feb-2013 (£221.28) Blackcircles.com - Supply & Fit new front tyres.
13-Jul-2013 (£891) The SEC Shop, Kemsing, Sevenoaks -Full service & MOT. Removal of faulty alarm system.
There are a couple of jobs that were on my list to do that I will now not get around to; the first being that the headlining is sagging towards the rear, this is something that could be left as it doesn’t affect the headroom in the back – I had been quoted around £500 for this. The second thing being that there is water ingress to the boot (although the parcel shelf always remains bone dry) and there is minor rust to the underside of the parcel shelf, this is ok for now, but will need replacing (from memory the price quoted was around £1,000).
The AMG parts on the car are all period and are as listed below:
· Front 9x16 AMG Pentas (missing when I purchased the car, sourced & refurbished)
· Rear 10x16 AMG Pentas (missing when I purchased the car, sourced & refurbished)
· Full Gen2 AMG widebody consisting of front wings & rear wings (steel), front spoiler, rear apron & side skirts.
· AMG white dials
· AMG steering wheel
· Interior trimmed with deep mauve leather piping to the black leather seats, combined with deep mauve leather to the door inserts & rear passenger inserts.
I did a full Expirian Autocheck on the car prior to buying & have subsequently received full details from the DVLA of all previous owners. These being:
1st owner: Carkeek & Sons Ltd - Purchased new on 10-Aug-1989 from M.Thomas (Continental) Plymouth
2nd owner: Castle Motors Ltd - Purchased on 05-Aug-1991
3rd owner: Springbell Ltd - Purchased on 31-Jul-1992
4th owner: Wheelhouse - Purchased on 20-Apr-1993
5th owner: Mr Leslie Norman Boyington - Purchased on 10-Jul-1993
6th owner: Mr Glen Rowland Arthur - Purchased on 04-Nov-1996
7th owner: myself - Purchased on 08-Feb-2012
MOT: 4th Jul 2014
Tax: 31st Dec 2013
Current mileage: 75,112
Other than the history that I have collected, the history file consisted of a few old invoices & relatively little else, there was a sheaf of past MOT certificates with mileage are as below, that give me no reason to believe that the current mileage is true:
Date of Issue Date of Expiry Milage
25-Aug-1994 24-Aug-1995 48,518
30-Nov-1995 29-Nov-1996 49,275

A drive down to Goodwood FOS last Friday reinforced my satisfaction of owning a car that draws comments of appreciation. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed owning this car, but my current personal circumstances mean that I really can’t justify keeping what is essentially a second car toy.
Whilst I’ve had a bit of time to type the above, I haven’t got around to taking any recent photos. With regards to price; the car stands me in for considerably more than I paid & have subsequently spent, Chas (SEC shop) implored me to keep it as an investment, which in an ideal world I would. Being realistic I’m looking for £10,000. I do also have a spare (standard) 1989 500sec donor car that is complete & has an extensive history file, in addition I also have a set of 5no 7x16 AMG Pentas & a spare period AMG steering wheel. Also, I have a full set of AMG brochures & specs sent out by Strattons in 1989. Also, on retention the number plate E50AMG. Ideally I would like to everything listed as a whole for £14,000.
If you’re interested, then please either PM or call on 07786-417844. I will endeavour to get some pics up in the next week or so, but if anybody would like then I can send what I do have via email.
Thanks,
Ian
