In response to a fellow forum member's request I have posted this price list image since I can't PM it. May be of interest to others?
The price list I have is actually dated SEPTEMBER 1990 so the E280 would not be on it. However I have attached a picture for the 2.6/3.0 litre saloon model pages- closest I could get.

Kinda puts things into perspective a little !

Look at some of the prices of the options

a couple of stand out prices for me are

90 litre fuel tank at just £68 whereas air con is at £2150

Mercedes have been charging 600-700 for metallic paint since time began hehe!

many thanks for the info Grober

Theft warning device - £550

Bet it was cheaper to insure the vehicle ......

Thanks Graham, interesting reading. If I was ordering one now, I'd jump at MB Tex for £154, as opposed to over ten times that amount for leather.........Self Levelling seems reasonable at £638.....I wonder what full sportline cost, it would be easy to have spent 40 grand+ on a 300E-24.

Has any one got the same price list for a C36 W202 ???

Fascinating. The increase of the RPI from then to now is a factor of 1.85 meaning in today's money a basic 300E with no extras was £54,797.

No wonder Merc's were then a more exclusive vehicle, although having said that I haven't checked how the cost of more popular cars has moved.

I don't suppose you can repost this can you?
I'd be interested to see how much the car and all the options on my 300TE-24 cost.
It was even registered in September 1990.

I've got the same price list somewhere and the only answer I give you currently is, loads of wonga for all the options. I recall checking my 2.5-16 with it's spec and that was something like £42K!, and it was missing one or two options.

I'll have a look for the price list later and post up the options for you car if nobody does in the meantime.

Here's some prices I had on file for the 190E, it's you an idea of pricing for other models.

Wow, you used to pay VAT on the car tax. Bet you wouldn't get away with that sort of shenanigan now

My car cost £51,680.10 in 1995. The buyer put a 5k deposit down plus £12,750 PX. The balance was financed over 36 months @ £1,096.43 per month. Not insignificant monthly payment nearly 20 years ago!

I wonder if there is a database stored somewhere that shows the prices of everyday items over the years, it would be fascinating to do comparisons with cars, loaves of bread, wine and spirits etc.
Great information, thanks for posting it :)

I know that my Ponton had a UK list price of around £2100 back in 1957 ; my dad's W110 190 cost around £1700 when he bought it new in 1964 , around the same time he bought the house I grew up in for £3000 , at that time about the same price as the 230SL which was introduced the year before . The last time the house changed hands about 10 years ago I heard it went for somewhere north of £250K , so cars were much more expensive in real terms back then .

My '90 190E has electric front seats, tilt/slide sunroof and air-con... go on how much!?
