1992 300TD - Excess smoke when starting from cold

Hi All,

I've noticed over the past few weeks that my 1992 300TD (245,000 miles) is emitting a large amount of whiteish smoke immediately after starting from cold (especially first thing in the morning)

I've also noticed that it idles erratically for the first couple of minutes but tends to settle down soon afterwards and is fine.

Car is well maintained with oil and filter changed every 3-4000 miles and the fuel filter has also been recently replaced.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

No, the glow plugs haven't been changed in my ownership. And now that you mention it sometimes the glowplug light doesn't illuminate when the ignition is switched on.

Aye, glow plugs or glow plug realay would be where I would start.
