1994 Mercedes SL280 convertible with Hard Top (R129 model)

85,000 Miles

4 speed adaptive automatic gearbox, 2.8L 193hp straight six which is a lovely smooth, very fast engine.

The body is in incredible condition for a 20 year old car, Carmine Red and looking gorgeous with beige leather upholstery with black highlights, its very unworn and the car has traditional Mercedes quality, with high class engineering which allows a huge feeling of security. The black mohair hood is in excellent condition and the matching Carmine Red hardtop is superb. The car is 20 years old and there are a few marks around the body, parking scrapes on the bumpers and some slight varnish chips and one small area of rust on the leading edge of the front wing.

The later model 18” alloy wheels are in good condition, without any sign of curbing, but there is some varnish damage, if you want it perfect, you might want them refinished, but it is certainly not bad.

The only failing of the car as far as I can ascertain is the seatbelt warning light remains on, according to my (Mercedes specialist) mechanic, this is a common problem and is to do with the seat control unit under the seat having partially failed. The seats do move perfectly under electric control, however the drivers seat will not move when you are seated, you must do so out of the car (the electrics are on the door so this isn’t hard work). The seatbelt pinger stays on for a few seconds after you have fastened the belt. Problems ? That’s it.

This is a beautiful car which is rising in value, but is a car that you can easily drive every day without problems. This was a £50,000 car when new, so is built with superb quality and it shows 20 years later, its stunning and is a seriously quick GT car that you could hop in and drive to the tables at Monaco tomorrow.

Price drop - £4900

It would appear that I have slightly overegged the price, so I am dropping it to £4900
