I finally bought my mum a new(ish) hatch, the infamous Honda Jazz, and its a fantastic replacement for this Vauxhall Corsa which my dad bought for her back in 2001 with 53k miles on the clock. It currently has 81k miles which may go up slightly because my mum does about 5-10 miles a every 2 days in it 
This car has been -the- most reliable car we have owned to date. I have always serviced it myself (my dad has done it once or twice), changed the oil every year because she doesn't do alot of miles in it, gearbox oil every 2 years and I've changed the spark plugs very recently along with other standard wear & tear items (tyres etc). Its got 12 months MOT on it, and it may have 12 months TAX on it, i'll confirm this when I go home.
The bad bits are basically that it doesn't look pleasing to the eye. The bumpers have some scratches on them, the red colour that it is supposed to be is quite discoloured, only 1 speaker in the car actually works and it has very slight bits of rust, one part of the panel under the door had to be treated for the most recent MOT but apart from that it does everything else its meant to do, good cheap reliable motoring!
