What's my '95 24 valve 7 seater E300 estate worth to someone? It owes me £6k, which may or may not have been a wise use of funds.
It was 1st registered 28.3.1995 and has now covered some 194,000 miles. It was Cat D in 2011 (n/s front wing and bumper). It has full cream leather in truly excellent conditon, 7 seats and is in Tourmaline Green. It has burl walnut trim, tilt and slide sunroof, air conditioning, heated front seats, matching Goodyear tyres on CL 8 hole rims. It is on a private plate.
I bought it on the 16.3.2012 for £4k and have since spent £2k on it. Why? Because having looked for many, many months for a 7 seater in solid condition, it was the best by a long way, despite having no service history (but a lot of MoT certs). It was bought by a friend who runs a fleet of some 17 old Mercs, mostly w124s, as cars for staff. Body-wise and spec-wise it was standout, and having been picked over by his tame Merc specialist Darren at West Preston Motors in Lancing, it was mechanically a known quantity.
Essentials were done immediately:
New engine bay wiring loom
Head gasket replaced
Steering damper
Over the last three years it has subsequently had the following:
New rear bumper pad
New tailgate glass
New tailgate seal
Rear load area windows removed, de-rusted and re-sealed (no leaks now!)
New brake flexible pipes front and rear
New door check straps X 4
New engine mounts
New front tie rods and drag link
New fuel lines (some of)
Small rust bubbling on n/s rear arch cut out, and metal fabricated and localised respray. All arches cleaned and Waxoiled.
New electric antenna
New Alpine radio/CD player
The above later work was carried out by Gordon and his lads at Automerc, Faraday Road, Newbury. Window removal, de-rusting and re-sealing, plus the wheel arch repair and waxoiling was carried out by Headley Bodyshop, also in Newbury.
Everything, apart from the vacuum headlight adjustment, works as it should.
Initial pictures attached - will take more and email to interested parties.
