1995 SL500 strange interior LED

Anyone know what this is relating to?



This light is on constantly when driving and even when the car is locked and alarmed. Not sure if this is a "standard" LED or an aftermarket one - it's not the one for the 3rd-party alarm system as that is over the other side of the car.

All is working fine with her and nothing is wrong at all so I am somewhat confused as to why this little red LED is on.

If it's an aftermarket one then more research required but any initial pointers greatly received.

Ok - me confused then as I have a 3rd-party alarm system.

Can I turn this LED off - remove the bit of plastic from the wood trim and disconnect so to speak?

Thinking aloud, I never use the fob that came on the key to lock / unlock as there is a separate one for the alarm that also does the central locking - could this be something to do with the original supplied fob needing something doing?

I assume your car is pre flip key?

If so dealers were fitting their own alarm systems...and to make them fit a little better these used these LED's that look like they belong.

If the system is no longer operational then yes I would just snip the wire.

Might look at removing the cover somehow and see if I can snip it - will it just pop out with a bit of persuasion?

Even the "official" MBSS (M-B Security System) on flip-key cars was installed by an external company in the UK. I've got the receipt somewhere for this being done on my '97 car, prior to delivery to the first owner.

It's gone off!

No idea why or how and nothing has changed but it isn't on any more.

Really confused but not complaining!
