My dear old E36 has a problem.

The ASR lamp is illuminated and it seems the traction control is not working. You can now light up the rear tyres like a crazed Clarkson.

My usual indy diagnosed an overvoltage protection relay ( part 000 540 67 45) but that has not worked.

It's drives almost like the traction control is turned off via the "snow chain" switch on the dash. This does not illuminate any more.

Any ideas please, the chap is at a loss as it's not showing any fault codes.

Thanks

I take it that he has been using a STAR to diagnose faults?

Do you know if your car has the biodegradable wiring loom?

i don't know what system he was using. Not an MB official one.

I expect it has, it's the right vintage, I think some of the loom had been changed prior to my purchasing it 10 years ago.

If its the loom, might be worth taking to these guys

I’ve not used them myself but had the page saved for future reference

Thanks, but Kent is a long way from home in Solihull.

I had a similar issue on my w140.
Engine loom had been replaced but it was the throttle body one that was causing issues, although that was putting it into limp mode.

Does your car have abs, do the lights come on straight away or only once you touch a pedal or start moving?

I would first check the looms, I think they are date coded.

Failing that I would confirm what system your indie was using to read codes and one of the other members should be able to confirm if it can access the asr module

If you need a new loom I believe you can post yours to sileck for repair

Did this issue get resolved?
