1998 E55 AMG

Nice bit of consistent shill bidding by the userid with the feedback of 91.

Didn't need to hear that the MoT showed 147k four years ago, it's obvious from that interior.

It's quite telling that the car has only done 800 miles in the last two years.

Hope those bids are just the owner's mates because £12k's a sad joke for that car.

I sold my 1998 E55 with 50k on the clock at four years old - and that really did look like "just out of the factory," unlike this thing.

Same interior color as my 02 E55. Do people really still try to clock cars today?

Should be reported if
A) mileage is incorrect.
B) bidding is fake.

What a horrible colour interior. Automatic bidding as well so someone put in a bid of 12000 within an hour or so of the listing going live. So obvious.

It’s nearer 3x the mileage....

And I don’t think any warranty work equals taking 100k miles off the odometer....

Sounds decidedly offputting.
The baggy seats lay testament to the miles........

So now he bought it about 4 years ago but ebay advert says 6 !

I'd guess he has clocked it which is why no mention of mileage in advert.

Ask for details from V5, an old V5 will have previous owner on it.

Anyone fancy going in and bidding £100000 ;)

Ebay don't give a stuff if mileage is incorrect or there is dubious bidding.

I have reported the classic car scammers on ebay so many times and they are there again within a few hours.

You know the one where nice cars are advertised at a low price with 1 photo and another with a an email address to contact the "seller".

Here is one that is live now.

Vauxhall Chevette Hsr Rally Car Redtop C20xe 245bhp | eBay

Seller has 747 cars for sale, all really cheap. Ebay do nothing.

"Hi there,, from the time I did buy this car, about 4 years ago yes I have very piece of receipt from the mercedes, very part very service that I've done to it, and it's very big file, all here present with the car"

Hi there again, the car has got nothing hidden every this is on line to check it out, like I did tell you on the earlier message the miles are done by the Mercedes Benz garage and the receipt has been given to the previous owner, yes I did think has been that long but is about 4 years that I own the car, log book I'm not gone give you here, more then welcome to come and have a look at the car

I once contacted Autotrader about all the adverts at the bottom end of the market whereby the car was listed at £200 but in the text they had put something like "Price is actually £2k".

They contacted me back and said this was against the rules and they would stamp it out yadda yadda.

Consistently found similar adverts all the time after that...

I presume these outfits make too much money from allowing this crap that there is little motivation to do something about it.

Really tarnishes the brand in my eyes but I'm sure they care little about that or what I think!

Sellers have been using that trick as adverts under £1k are free, AT will delete the ad if reported (it’s in their interest really as the ad should be paid for).

The Chevette ad has now gone. But tbh with any rare classic it’s easy to find out if it’s genuine or not.

I would expect a corporation which generates billions of dollars a year to be a bit more on the ball than they are.

You don't need AI or a fancy algorithm to spot a seller who has probably been inactive for months/years (ie a hacked account) suddenly lists 747 high value items at the same time.

But ebay never stops this practice and it has been going on for years.

It really makes searching for classic cars very frustrating, not to mention the people who undoubtedly have been scammed through contacting these fraudsters.

Maybe ebay (like so many dot.com companies) should factor into there business model to actually employing some members of staff.
