when i bought my vito a couple of months ago on test drive i asked does aircon work? the seller turn the switch on and blower and pointed at the switch waved his hand in front of vent and said "si perfecto".
its not working now and it probably was not working then.
i know i am going to have to get an aircon specialist to look at it but would like to try and work out where the problem is first.
when i turn it on the switch lights up and blower works but the air does not get cold. is there a way to check compressor ? as i guess that will be the most expensive part to replace. i have bought a workshop manual but it does not tell you much ? any ideas of how to check it would be appreciated.
thanks mick

Only thing I can think of it turning the a/c on to see if the compressor clicks in should be able to hear it or peak under the bonnet to see if it's spinning. If it is then hopefully just a re-gas if not could could be a number of faults, split pipe seized compressor etc. Hope this helps

the compressor is attached to drive belt so it spins all the time does it not ? or am i missing some thing in your reply

The compressor pulley is an electronically controlled clutch. The pulley side of it rotates all the time driven by the serpentine belt, when all the correct signals are presented to the controller it engages the clutch and turns the compressor.

The most likely cause is it's low on gas, a decent A/C place will check for leaks before refilling it.
