hi guys,on the way to work this morning my wipers decided not to turn off and kept going and going, after turning off ignition and switch lots of times eventually they stopped, tried again and yes they kept going,The wipers have been playing up on intermittent recently and have been parking the arm anywhere on the window it wanted to but several flicks of the switch and it would eventually park up in right place. Now i cant switch them off and its driving me crazy please help.

thx simon

Hi,
This could be one of two things IMO, combination relay in the fuse box or the stalk switch.
Both have been known to fail.
Because of issues with "intermittent" facility I would favour the relay.
Below is a diagram of the wiper circuit, though for an earlier model it should be the same or very similar.

Your fault aside, are you sure you have intermittent? as I have always believed, that the 43 had rain sensing wipers, which revert to intermittent when the screen sensor goes U/S or becomes disconnected which is very common occurance on my car anyway. If you look just in front of your rear view mirror if you have screen sensing wipers there will be a 3 inch square cover which covers the screen sensor.

thx andy, car defo does not have rain sensing, have found the two relays in the fusebox located on the o/s/f inner wing area under bonnet and took them out and cleaned them and wipers were great for 10 minutes now its back worse than ever wont turn off at all,so have ordered a relay from mercedes.Fingers crossed that might be problem, should i be replacing both relays or just one.

thanks again simon

update

just a quick update, have tried relays no different, what i have found out if the car has engine running fault is there,if not running fault does not occur, maybe sam unit?
