1999 SLK 230K
With regret we need to sell our SLK. We need a quick sale as the MOT runs out on 6th December. If we can’t sell it privately I will take up the nice people at WBAC on their offer to take it off my hands.

Here are the details:

1999 V reg R170 SLK 230K
136,500 miles
Red paintwork
Cream/black interior

We bought the car in 2008 at around 70,000 miles; it has been our/my wife’s daily driver since then and always garaged. We’ve driven it down to Italy, through France and up to Scotland several times without issue.

Service history:
September 2000: 5,068 miles Mercedes Benz, Weston-Super-Mare
January 2002: 15,969 miles Mercedes Benz, Weston-Super-Mare
December 2002: 29,211 miles Mercedes Benz, Weston-Super-Mare
February 2004: 48,375 miles Mercedes Benz, Weston-Super-Mare
January 2005: 51,172 miles Colin Ludwell Cars, Bristol
March 2008: 69,090 miles Croft Motors, Uxbridge

Specialist service history since we bought the car in summer 2008:

January 2009: 78,078 miles Star Motor Services, Reading
July 2009: 86,764 miles Star Motor Services, Reading
January 2010: 96,802 miles Star Motor Services, Reading
August 2010: 103,773 miles Star Motor Services, Reading
March 2011: 110,198 miles Star Motor Services, Reading
November 2011: 117,584 miles Star Motor Services, Reading
November 2012: 125,848 miles Prestige Motor Company, Bloxham
November 2013: 136,254 miles Prestige Car Service, Horndean

Other recent work of note:

November/December 2012:
Brake fluid changed
Gearbox oil and filter changed; sump gasket, seal and drain plug replaced.
Steering damper replaced
Alloys refurbished
All four wheel arches and front wing rust repaired and repainted

August 2012 at Prestige Motor Company:
New ECU
Camshaft adjuster and sender unit replaced

Tax until August 2014
MOT UNTIL 6th DECEMBER 2013.
I have a stamped up service book, quite a number of receipts and MOTs from before my ownership, all the receipts from my ownership and 2 sets of keys.
Car has an aftermarket Kenwood CD player.
The car does not have an alarm.

Given the situation, I will list the bad bits first:

Bad bits:

SRS light is on, this is an MOT fail. Diagnostic check at PCS points to the passenger airbag unit being faulty and needing replacement, though it may also need a new airbag control unit as well. Seatpad sensor which is often a problem was replaced last year.
Rear brakes hoses will need replacing for the MOT.
It will need some suspension work, possibly bushes for the MOT. Last year the one advisory was the nearside drag link end ball joint.
The rear diff has a small oil leak.
There is some lacquer peel on passenger side A pillar.
A couple of small (fingernail) size paint repairs on the roof.
Small scratch (2’’ long) on the driver’s side wing.
Condensation in the passenger side headlight.
Usual stone chipping on the bonnet commensurate with the age of the car.
Aircon does not work.
Crack in the windscreen, though not in the swept area, so doesn’t affect the MOT and hasn’t spread in four years.
Bonnet catch can be sticky when lowering the bonnet - pushing it with your finger does the trick.
Small scrapes on the door mirrors.

Good bits:

Full service history, most recent was an A service at PCS, Horndean at 136,300 miles.
Autobox is fine and was transmission fluid was changed last year (10,000 miles ago).
Tyres have life left, a few thousand on the front, more on the rears.
Alloys are in great condition - high quality refurb was done last year.
No rusty arches or wings (they were repaired last year); no rust visible elsewhere on the bodywork.
Roof mechanism works fine.
All the other electrics work, no warning lights present other than the SRS light.
Interior is pretty clean for the age and mileage - its not perfect with some wear to the driver’s seat outer bolster, but it’s pretty good.

I have listed all known faults here and the car will be sold as seen. Please email me at simon(dot)joyce(at)gmail(dot)com for pictures.

OIRO £900 will be listened to; this would make a great project for over the winter - with a bit of know-how, this car should have plenty more life left in her.

Any enquiries are welcome, but I need to sell the car this weekend (30/31st November) if at all possible.
