Drove best part of 500miles on Monday, so I gave the car a clean.

After using the Hose on it, I noticed the passenger footwell had become damp again :( (I had a problem a few months ago).

Now after footie tonight, I got back in the car (Its been p!ssing it down all day) turned a corner & I could hear sloshing.

I looked down to see a lake about 1cm deep above the carpet!!!

Question is, as far as I can see all the drainage holes are clear!?!

I will be able to have a good look tomorrow, but im worried about the electrics etc.

Does anyone have any detailed pictures of all the drainage points in the engine bay area? Im thinking I will need to remove the aircon box to get full acess to the top right of the engine bay?

I'd be particularly careful mate as the gearbox ECU and others are just inches away from this location - don't want those getting damp or wet!

Good luck with the fix :)

yikes , mop that up right away and get the carpet out of there!

Carpet comes out easy , it is all just tucked into the trim and not attached in any way , that will give you a head start on making it ok.

Next thing you will need to do is remove the pollen filter carefully under the glove box with a basin or similar there to catch the water in there.

Yeah, I have removed the filter, its incredable how much water that holds!

A bucket is now in place under it :(

Cheers for the replies

id still take the carpet out and dry it in the house , there is a lot of foam soundproofing under it too and then its streight onto bodywork.

i found if you got the carpet by the footrest at the top where it meets the dash , pulled it down towards the passenger seat and then folded the sides in with the passenger seat fully back , the carpet comes away very easilly .

will be much better than leaving it in situ where it will get damp.

Cheers, but ive already completely cleared it all after last time.

Had a look tonight and it was completely clear... mmm tomorrow will tell

EDIT: Good idea re carpet, will do it now :)

I had the same problem on my 560, but I didn't realize it was leaking until it was too late, I think it eventually got to all the electrics down in the passenger footwell, the car was never right after that, ECU's going on the blink etc.

Don't know if yours is the same but check behind the passenger seat aswell, the 560's was just as wet, obviously it used to just run from the front to the back.

Hope you get it sorted, I never found the leak. ;)

FWIW water in the footwell on my Sharan was traced to a badly fitted replacement windscreen ... there was a tiny gap in the bonding at the top, so it only leaked in certain conditions.

Thanks for the repiles.

Luckly virtually all the water was in/on the carpets, under it was virtually dry.

Im going to check the drainage holes, but as far as I can tell they are clear already.

Re: Windscreen, it has had a replacement one in the past!

If the water was in the pollen filter , then its fair to say its been the escape drain that was blocked in the air intake under the windscreen

Ok, theres still a tiny leak.

Have a look at the picture below:

water1.jpg

Number 1 on the picture seems to be like a rubber trap door, yesterday I fully opened it with my finger & about 1/2 a litre flowed out.
Is it meant 2 be open like that??

Number 2 on the picture does have some water on it, but nothing is blocked there apart from the cabling which is sealed in.

So which of these is causing the grief? or is it somthing im missing?

Number 3 is a piston from the bonnet opening mech, im sure its not meant 2 be loose like that and travel (as pictured)?

Any idea's?

This 2nd shot is the footwell with the carpets etc removed. I have dried out everything I can apart from the damp spounge soundproofing which cannot be removed (green lines is the wet area, blue drops is where the water travels)

Ideas please :(

I have had similar problems with my 1992 E class. In my case it was the seal that fits over the bottom of the screen. This seal had been badly fitted sometime in the past and you could see a gap between it and the screen (without opening the bonnet). The water went through this gap and bypassed all the drains into the footwell. To cure it I just took the seal off (it almost fell off!) saw how it should be fitted (in my case parts of the plastic moulding fit into 3 steel clips each side), and fefitted it correctly. The rubber part now fits snugly against the windscreen glass so the water cannot get in there.
Hope this might help. If yours is not similar, good luck, theres nothing worse than intermittent wet feet.

Yeah, im thinking it could be one of the windscreen seals after all!

Its booked in for an MOT on Thurs + getting that pesky ASR light fixed, so will see what they say!

What was the result of this? :)

My W210 has the water problem again and after one goosed control unit I found the foam surround around my new unit very wet this afternoon.

Cheers,

Paul.

IIRC, they had to remove most of the vent trim & fill under it full of Silicon sealant, fixed the problem and has been dry ever since :)

My dads old C200 Estate has water coming in, generally on the passenger side. Initialy thought something to do with aircon.

Turns out it was the front window seals that had worn and perished. New window / seal fitted = water leak sorted.

This makes me want to put up with minor scratches in the windscreen. I'm afraid that fitting a new screen might cause leaks or wind noise if something isn't fitted well.
