94' C280 sport
Hi everyone. Recently bought a '94 C280 salloon and the backbox is rusty. Can anyone tell me if a back box from an AMG c36/43 is a straight fit? (Just want a nice set of tail pipes instead of the standard ones) How much should i expect to pay for a new one of these from mercedes? Also, considering an induction kit for it , but having trouble finding anywhere that does this sort of thing online in the UK. Where do you all ''shop''? Any help shall be appreciated.

Howdy!

Welcome to the club!

I can't remember if the backbox is a straight fit - I'm sure someone will confirm soon. New from MB (if they still sell them) would be prohibitive.

The induction kit is already "built in" (well, sort of). On the Esprit, the air already has a forced air intake... people don't tend to play around with that side of things as you really don't want to be sucking in warm engine bay air, when the car already has cool outside air being forced in through the air intake ;)

Welcome on board. :)

Personally,i dont replace exhausts with normal steel replacements, i go for stainless steel. You should be able to get a cat backwards system for just over £300 fitted from Mr Tyre or similar,& you get to tell them how noisy you want it ! I said 'I want to hear it,but legal' & im well pleased.

C36 backbox should fit as it is a 6 cylinder engine ( the 3.6 L engine is the 280 bored out ) ...

C43 won't fit straight on as the pipe is for a V8 and is bigger , but any good exhaust shop should be able to fabricate a sleeve.

I would try and stay OEM if poss ( AMG ) as aftermarket ones can look a little bit ' Barry '

thanks for the replys, i'll try and get a c36 back box, as all i want is for it to look a bit better, don't want much noise from it.

C36 backbox will have square tips , C43 has oval ...

Scour Ebay , as they are VERY expensive from the dealer
