2.1 CDI. Motor

Hi all,
Morning, cold out there now getting. -1 on my dash this morning.

Can I ask, please. .
I'm thinking of buying a Merc.
2.1 CDI.
I like an estate or hatch back, got a little more helpful usage.
The A class. . Is there anything that you can say..
Only 2.1, .1.5 won't be good for my mileage, I no that's the wrong expression, & I've heard it's either Peugeot or Renault engine.
The 2.1 CDI, is there room to work on the engine in the bay, or does the window screen have to be removed to do certain engine repairs.
What's the A class 2.1 CDI bad points & good points.

The C class on same engine. saloon. Do the rear seats fold down.?

I'm looking at the 2013 - 2015. Take it is a W204 model on the c class.

If you want working space around the engine then the E class is the better choice.
But even if there is room it's an awkward engine to work on. There are too many plastic components that like to give problems.
Then the EGR plunbing that goes around the rear of the engine.
And that is where the timing chain is, rather than at the front, and it's simplex rather than the familiar duplex.

These engines are known to give high mileage, but also known to give issues w/o high mileage for many.
The design is a revenue increaser for the main agents, imho.

Yeah dad as E & theres plenty of room, but I'm not lookin for the size of that car, even the C class estate be big enough now.
I'm 530 BMW estate but wanting to up my yr, or lower my age.

I appreciate the smaller C thinking,
but the E gives more advantages than just the increase in size.

I didn't realize the superiority of the E over the C till I bought a 211 (estate) to get me by while I removed the om651 from my Viano. I have had 3 C's prior to that, the C320 CDI had lots of toys.
But the E is better.
And with its 646 engine is more appealing than the 651 in the Viano (or even the 642 that was in the earlier C tbh).

I got my eye on a c220 2013. CDI.auto

The car says ad-blue, my sister test drove the car (she as the 2015 c220 auto), she says all good, i had a drive (1st auto.ive drove) yeah seems all good.
Reversing is going to take me a bit of time, I'm use to a thing on my I-drive (BMW) now its the rear view mirror.
But the car description says ad-blue..

I looked in the diesel refill area, & I didn't see a blue refill thing,.. I didn't see a blue lid & I don't think I seen anything else.

Am I right or was my eyes closed.?

I think you’ve misread it. Could it be Bluetec? I don’t think ad-blue came in until 2015/6.
Bear in mind at that age it won’t be LEZ compliant, don’t know if that’s an issue to you.

Walk away from it if it's an AdBlue car .

Collinallcars, not sure what LEZ is.. sorry.

My father was just saying on the phone to me, he don't think it's ad-blue, like you said didn't think it came out till 2015+.

Why would you say that petrol Pete.?

I heard on the new ford raptor (a friend as the big 1) he's adblue pump went, & that's on a new motor & 6 or so months of use.
Sister drives adblue 2015, she's like a formula 1 driver, says it's great.

But yeah, I've seen now online that efficient is not 100% adblue, but the Tec is.

LEZ is the clean air compliance. London gets most press but gawd knows how many other cities have their different requirements of vehicles now.

Anything your looking at will be Euro 5 compliant, and that isn't compliant with any city as they want Euro 6, if they allow diesel at all. Euro 6 diesel mo mo's, being Ad Blue, are an expensive head ache when the Ad Blue system throws a wobbly.

The front driver seat leather, as a tear where the leathers stitched.
I was looking online at some of the self adhesive leather patches / stripes.

Do you folk no any good ones that stay on but don't look like a total mess.?

So far I'm loving the car...dad swears by them so do the sister & uncle. For a 2 litre it's plenty.. wouldn't mind a little go in the 320cdi tho. Dad had 1 said it was a monster...

You have not noticed if your engine turns off when you stop at traffic lights? Would you be able to let us know in which part of the country you normally drive?

The 651 engine is reliable. Access to most things are tricky no matter what chassis its in.

They suffer from: Oil leaks, boost leaks, DPF blockages etc.

My best advice is to get it inspected before you buy it by a main dealer or specialist like me. They are a few years old now and we see many that are neglected.

jhs, yeah, I'm in Ireland, Limerick. I have not noticed the engine turning off.
When I'm driving & come to stop at traffic lights I usually just stay in D then when lights change just foot off the break peddle & go, I've not heard engine turn off / re start, or the rev counter go dead.

Yeah blackc55, car is going grand, hopefully be better than the BMW, but my old E39 not common rail was a god, great car, I shouldn't of sold it, only for the tax...
