My e class seems to be slowly self distructing:mad:

The two new problems are the fan on the heating/A/c has died. It didn't seem to be behaving in a strange way for the last couple of months, the fan and temp seemed to have a mind of there own. So do I need a new fan or regulator or both????

The SRS light seemed to come on randomly for the last couple of months, it seemed to happen more often when someone was in the passenger seat. The light is now on all the time, does it mean all the airbag wont work?

Any help greatfully received.

SRS light is 99% likely to be a dodgy connection under the passenger seat. In the passenger footwell have a look under and there should be a yellow, or black connector. Unplug this and check all the wires are attached to the pins.

Dont worry, theres no chance of an Airbag exploding in your face, when the light is on the system is disabled.

If this helps, a previous motor of mine (not M-B) did the same with the SRS warning light. I mucked about with all the under-seat wiring until I was... well, never mind. The cat is now several inches shorter, shall we say.

The wiring connector plug had become disconnected at the seatbelt pre-tensioner pyrotechnic unit on the side of the seat. Plugged it in (no-one in the front seats as a precaution) and all was restored.

SRS will not activate if the light is on, so no un-commanded detonations.

Downside is that there are also no commanded detonations, i.e. in the case of a heavy frontal impact, so no airbags or seatbelt tensioning when you need them.

Google mercedes occupancy sensor, its a pad in the seat.

It is very likely to be the seat recognition pad. Seat has to come apart to replace it.

is it the blower that is not working?

I've now stripped the fan unit out and taken the regulator off. I attached the fan across a 12v supply and it worked fine.

So I assume it must be the regulator????

Look at the fan brushes on the motor. Are they ok?

Small hijack:) The srs light for passenger seat occupancy is always on in my car. This means the airbag would be inoperative on that side only?

I think BlackC55 threw a curved ball in there! I guess he didn't see your previous post. :p

If the fan operates correctly with 12V across it, then the brushes etc must be OK.

Is the regulator itself getting 12V? If you can, check everything back down the line if it is possible, including connections, while you have everything already out/undone. If the regulator has a supply but no output, then yes, it looks like that may be the culprit.

renault12ts - is it on regardless of passenger seat occupancy? I.e. on whether or not anyone is seated there? Do you mean the warning light in the binnacle, or the one on the dash? Mine (admittedly a 211) has a centrally-positioned light which illuminates to show airbag de-activation only when a kiddy seat is placed there. Anyone else sat in the seat proper and it does not illuminate. Also does not illuminate when seat is unoccupied. Does that help (not sure it does!)?

Sound like the regulator......you can get one from Euromerc. He has the original MB units and he sells them for half the price of the dealer.

Thats where I got mine from.

on the srs problem does any one know how much it costs tp fix the seat pad?

I've check the wiring under the seat and it all looks ok

When i bought my 210 the bloke i got it from had the srs switched off so he could have a child seat in the front, he told me when light on whole system dead.

I've fixed the fan, it appears that both the regulator and fan had died!!!

I had to go out a get a fan from a breakers and they gave it to me with the regulator, so I now have a spare one.
