2 pin DIN speakers connectors

Replacing an old Blaupunkt head unit for a slightly newer version. Matched up all the wiring apart from the speakers which have 2-pin DIN connectors. Can anyone tell me which is the positive (+) terminal the pin or the spade?

you'll do well to get shot of those 2 pin dins, evil things
we used to run audio thru em in pubs back in the 70s/80
after a while the female socket expands and the male plug doesn't touch the sides and loses contact [gentleman palease wash your minds out with soap and water]

Thankfully the 2-pin DINs were on the old head unit.

Now that I have wired it all up the Head Unit works OK when the Fader is set to neutral (0) but the left speaker goes quiet when I adjust the bias to back or front. Could this indicate that perhaps the speaker + & - contacts are not consistent? I would like your opinion first before I tear the dash apart.

you have 2 spks in front and 2 in rear and left ones change when you alter fader ? is that right

Yes, and the same with the Balance.

sounds like youve got spks mixed up, set vol to just audible [ amp might not like running without a load ]then turn off and disconnect all spks, turn back on and put balance to full left, fader to full front and find which wires are to front left spk, repeat with others, right/front, left/back, and right/back. an impedance meter would be handy, but a multimeter set on ohms range would do, good luck, dont blow it up, acrid burning smell is not a good sign

It's my daughter car and I am looking after it while she is abroad; when I asked her about the old head unit she mentioned that it sounded funny when she twiddled the fader thingy! So it looks like the previous owner made a mess of wiring up the original speakers to a replacement head unit and I have just copied their mistake. I know I have the right wiring stubs to the newer Blaupunkt because I still have the manual for it. A wiring diagram for the original audio system might help as regards wire colour coding - is there such a beast?
