C63 AMG - black with black wheels
So after nearly 2 weeks with my C63, how am I getting on?

I suppose the first thing that really gets to you is the noise.:D Much discussed on this forum, but you really can't get away from the fact that it is fantastic. As the wife says "it sounds like there's a motorbike just behind us" - and as I have a bike, she knows what she's on about. :thumb:

The seats are fantastic too -a big hit with me and the missus. I haven't really settled on a final position for myself - keep fiddling, but I think it's just degrees of comfort rather than any issue

There is a downside to all the enjoyment though. I'm terrified of touching the wheels on a kerb. Have toyed with the idea of getting some "alloygators", but am undecided at the moment. They don't look great (at least, they seem to divide opinion) and more importantly for me, seem to be a bit of an unknown quantity under track conditions.:dk:

I've got a decent amount of track time scheduled over the next few month. I'm starting mid April at Dijon Renois in France, then heading to Ricky's GW trackday at the end of the month. I've got my Power and Passion training (the one that comes in the bundle with getting the car de-restricted) that same weekend - the Sunday and Monday. Will probably do a few trips to the Nordschleife and a day at Spa before heading back to the second GW date in August.

I appreciate that I'll need a big tyre and petrol budget to handle all that, but I figure I need to make some effort to make the most of buying a car like this, or I might as well have bought a Kia... something:ban:

Everything about driving the car is great, except that is takes a few minutes for the oil to get up to temperature. Even the drive to work is interesting beyond belief - stop start traffic is enjoyable. After minimal effort, I can get the car a bit sideways in the underground car park at work, which amuses me no end.

Anyway, just a quick update for you all, hope to see some of you next month at GW:bannana:

Glad you're enjoying it Ben. But please.....stay away from the alloygator!

Relax and just take care - if the worst comes to the worst, a new wheel is only about £500 (ooops...did that just come out loud?)

Why not buy some second-hand kerbed wheels so you don't have to worry?

Hi Ben
know what you mean about oil temp mine is half way to work before its warmed up!
what do you do? - i m really gentle till 84degrees and dont push it till its up at 98+(normal)
dont worry about kerbs those black wheels are unbreakable ...or at least they should be (££££££)
Glad you're enjoying it - see you at GW

as you know no amg engine is to be stood from cold running so my answer is fall in love with the nearest petrol station and take the long way too work

enjoy guys love the car one day maybe

Glad you're enjoying the car. You won't get over the wheel thing until you get a ding in one - then everything will be all fine there on (I put a small one in the rear), very annoying then got over it.

It'll be more fun when you drive with the windows open and you hear the roar of the lion chasing you. :-)

Keep us posted on your experiences - I'm really happy for you.

After four months, I finally kerbed one of my rims... The noise from in the car was loud and quite a bit of vibration, but when I got out to look at the damage, it was minimal..
Thank goodness....

Hi Buddy,

Really glad you are enjoying the car Ben, they are awesome and the noise is something I still cant get over. It seems to be getting louder as time goes on owning the car and I love it.

So did you get booked up for the Power and Passion driving experience, what days did you go for in the end mate? Im waiting for the confirmation that I booked mine for the end of July when I am off for my two week break over the summer. I reckon thats going to be a great experience and a shame you can't do the same time as me.

The GW day is coming up pretty soon now and really looking forward to that. Same as you though mate I agree, buying a car like this you quickly realise that its a car for the track and to really appreciate it those tracks beckon.... LOL. Don't worry about the wheels mate, I think its one of those things that the more you think about it the more chance you have of curbing them. Just enjoy the car mate, I have a few stone chips on the bonnet now and tbh it winds me up but theres nothing I can do about it, just have to live with these things and use the car. Thats what its there for.

Yeah be good to see you in a few weeks, in which me and Nudenut are getting Rob to spruce our pride and joys up by Rob a couple of days prior to the GW day so they look lovely and shiny!

Speak to you Ben

I did one of mine back in January, I was livid. It is a long scratch on the very outer lip so not too bad. I put lacquer on it and will get it repaired, but when I looked at it again at the w/e it seemed to be much longer. So I don't know if my wife managed some expert kerbing or it just annoys me more now.

This link (never used them) does give me confidence that it can be repaired without having to mill off a few mm from the lip.

Driving too fast on the motorway? I have these too! in fact one stone destroyed my foglamp

How you doing Si, hope you are well bud....:thumb:

Yeah I think you are right, I had a go with touching them up myself , theres two on one side of the bonnet and did a so so job on them. I ordered up a touch up stick and lacquer from the dealer.

Last night I passed 2 milestones in the ownership of my C63:

It's run-in:bannana:

Kerbed my rear nearside wheel!:ban:

WTF should I do with one scuffed wheel:dk:? It's only a bit along the edge of the wheel, and probably wouldn't notice unless you were looking for it, but still. Can it be fixed somewhere while I wait? Buying a new one seems a bit extreme, but I don't want to roll permanently with a scuffed wheel until change to winter wheels and tyres in October...

Suggestions/thoughts (other then me being a clumsy oaf:wallbash:) welcome!

I presume it is the famous nearside kerb wheel? ;)
Swap it with the offside opposite and before time I'm sure you'll have a matching pair...:ban::D

Beninlux nooooo you are not allowed to scuff the black wheels:doh:

Sorry to hear this, I can relate - get some matt black paint on it pronto to protect the metal from the air/elements. Yours should be easier to fix than mine as mine is a polished one with lacquer.
