Can somebody please identify the sensor by the red arrow?
Problem: My temp guage does not work. I was told to replace the coolant temp sensor which I did- see red arrow.
Then I was told that the sensor I should replace is on the thermostat (replaced it incl full thermostat housing and sensor) and the one indicated by the red arrow is NOT a coolant temp sensor.

Temp guage still does not work and I cannot identify this sensor by the red arrow (19mm nut, 2 x wires)
I am a newbie so any help would be appreciated.

The 1 in the thermostat is the sender. The 1 in red is possibly to tell the fan to kick in.

Still got nothing reading AT ALL on the temp guage at the dash after replacing full thermostat and sensor - any ideas?

Does the gauge move at all? Faulty gauge? Or faulty wiring

Be led display is it . ?

The instrument cluster, bulbs, central lcd all work fine. Only the temp guage does not work - doesn't even move

STAR diagnosis probably best to check what reading the sensor is giving

How can I buy/get STAR? (Ive used VAG before but this is my first MB) I have access to full snap on Diag - would this do?

Genuine STAR is very very expensive (thousands) and can't just be bought. Some decent clones out there and are the best for MB as most indepth. The Snap On should be good enough, see if you can see the actual temperature reading the sensor is giving out. If correct, the sensor is fine. If not, then maybe a wiring fault. It's somewhere to start. You could get a STAR diagnosis from a decent Indie who could interrogate the system rather than just read codes.
