2 year old C Class Coupe paint problem!

3 months sounds a little excessive as I've been told mine should take 1 month and its an e class coupe so same number of doors etc to repaint as yours.

Seeing as you've had the car for over a year, realistically don't think much will be done regarding compensation/refund but you're welcome to try the dealership or customer services. Whilst the car is being repainted you should be given a courtesy car to minimise inconvenience...

Mine was 3 months from the dealer collecting the car to me getting it back.

Had a call from Mercedes HQ, they said there is NO manufacturing issue with the car... Really shocked that they think its acceptable on a car like this.

Mine's booked in next month and they've assured me that it will only take a month, hope they don't rush it

any problems supermonkeyman, just give it back to them if its not 100% and keep refusing it until its perfect!

Yeh thanks. I've told them that I'm really fussy so we're all on the same page and they said that it'll be perfect. The warranty guy seemed really nice so hopefully all will be well.

Mine has gone to MB Manchester for the doors and the bonnet (rear end was done last year). I am quite happy this time as the bonnet was in need of some work with all the stone chips acquired over the last 5 years. Doors looked fine to me but I think its better to get them done to avoid another trip in the future.
They are not doing the wings because they are aluminium and they don't suffer from the same problem. I hope the job is a good match and they blend in with the existing paint.

I went today to pick mine up as it was finished, there was a small mark on the A pillar where according to the employee, a air line might have caught it whilst it was wet. Also it had some light swirl marks so it's still there.

Was a bit annoyed about the mark as I spotted it within 2 mins of seeing the car, surely someone in the bodyshop also saw it, they've agreed to do that bit again.

He's not keen to get rid of the swirl marks and tried to weasel his way out by saying they didn't cause them and that they're okay...

Also asked for an inspection light to look aver the car and was handed an amateur looking torch, asked for a Sun Gun and apparently that's all they have

Hi guys, first time poster here, I have just acquired the same or similar issue on my (fire opal) red 2011 c class unfortunately.

The clear coat has started to peel of on the bonnet, so I have phoned Robinsons in Cambridge to have a look, but they have already warned me that if any 3rd party painting has happened they won't cover it. They have taken my details and a specialist will call me when in the area...

My problem is that I bought the car in May and have the Approved Used Warranty free for the first year, but how can I now if any third party work has been applied over the years? The roof has been wrapped (as far as I am aware) and it also looks like the bottom of the front bumper has been painted black too, which I guess was third party work, but no way of knowing.

Should I try and squeeze some answers out of the MB dealer who sold me the car?

Going from what I have read in this thread so far I see that going in hard at MB (with tact, respect and decency) might assure me some resolutions, but I'm worried I'm going to get the old it's had some third party work and therefore we won't be helping you sir...

Clear coat peeling is not the same problem as the one described in this thread so MB will look into it in a different way I am sure.
MB have ways to know if the car has been painted before like looking at the thickness of the paint. Having the roof wrapped or the front bumper painted will raise some suspicions but should not determine the outcome. They will just look very carefully to see if they can get out of doing the work for free.

Mine just came back from MB bodyshop after having the front half of the car done and they did not even attempt to get out of doing the work.

Hi SmartMAC, thanks for clearing that up for me, I see your poor car has been around the houses with this issue...

Well i'll just have to hope they don't find a reason and maybe some light questioning if they do as to why it won't be fixed on there behalf. it's unfortunately not just in one area as there are two spots on the bonnet where it's peeling, I'm guessing stone chips have perforated the clear coat and allowed moisture inside. Now that I say it sounds like they'll say it's not their issue :(

I have a picture, so will try and post it once I figure that out.

It is, it's not just the blistering. My clear coat was peeling off all over the place, and pressure washer or heavy rain made it spread like a forest fire.

I stand corrected. Good luck with it. Its not nice to have the paint of your car in that condition.

Here's my thread, complete with pictures a few posts down.

It's perfect now, full respray including bumpers and replacement freshly painted sills. Looks brand new. :D

Unfortunately some aren't being treated as well as I was. If the Manchester dealership isn't too much of a road trip, it could be worth venturing out there. I even had a brand new courtesy car for the 2+ weeks they had the car, which I then dragged out to 3 weeks as I liked it and "was away on business" :D

Thanks i'll have a read through this :)

Its usually the horizontal surfaces that are affected first by this issue. The fact the lower front bumper which is plastic has been repainted should not affect your claim. However the wrapped roof may be another matter. You are always best going back to the MB dealer you bought it from when pursuing claims like this. In terms of repainting the visiting paint assessor should have a device to measure the paint thickness to ascertain whether any remedial work has been done already.

Hi grober, thanks for the info, I have contacted the sales exec who sold me the car, but no response, my issue is that I bought the car from an MB dealership miles away from where I live, I suppose if Robinsons in Cambridge don't play ball I can go back to Listers in Lincoln (where I bought the car) and enquire with them.

At this point I am assuming (hoping) the roof was wrapped, it certainly looks like it was, but I am far from an expert.

I'll just wait and see what MB in Cambridge say and see what my options are from there...

Thanks guys for the info / reassurance that's not just me.

Another vote for MB Manchester. They had to do the bonnet and both doors but they did the wings too so all the paint matches perfectly. The car had the paint protection when new so they re-apply that for free too (£400ish when new). I had a new A class for the 10 days it took them to do the job.

One week later after speaking to my local MB dealer and initially raising my concern with the paintwork, I have not heard from the 'specialist' is this the norm for this type of issue? Or am I well within my rights to chase up?

Always chase up.
