Hi Guys,
I have a 2000 A160 Avantgarde Auto. Nice little thing for an old A-Class, fully loaded. It does, however, have a minor steering issue. It steers fine in itself, but there is a "scratching" sound, sometimes accompanied by a small squeak when turning the wheel and every so often it feels like there is a small amount of resistance coming from the steering. Aside from this the car is A1 and only affects the drive in a minor way, particularly at low speeds, but something is clearly not quite right. I've read some scary things online about replacing pretty much the whole steering system on the A-Class, but I don't think this feels like it can be anything as bad as that. It almost feels like it's just a piece of plastic on the steering column catching, but it's not actually that.
Anyone had a similar experience and can point me in the right direction?
Cheers
Mike
