Hi Guys and Girls,
I have recently bought a 2001 Slk 3.2 auto which has developed a problem with the gear box.
Whilst driving today I accelerated (kickdown) but nothing harsh and the car lost all drive. I stopped of course turned the engine off and back on and car ran fine again (although I did not use the kickdown again) later after starting the car again the car would not change gear and stayed in 1st gear I stopped the car turned off and back on car drove with gears working as they should:doh:
Does anyone have any insight a to what this problem might be.

I would think it's the speed conductor plate in the gearbox. Get it checked out on STAR it is a pretty common fault but not the end of the world. You will need a conductor plate, filter, pan gasket, electrical connector bushing, drain plug washer and some fluid. Just done mine and pushed about ten litres through to get all the old stuff out. The other possibility is that the bushing has failed and fluid has wicked its way up the wiring loom and into the TCU but my money is on the conductor plate. If you need any bits PM me.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I was just wondering I still have my other car, a 2000 E class 320 auto petrol (W210)
wrst case senerio would the auto box from that fit the Slk

Don't even think about it....!!!!!! Get the codes read on STAR before you do anything, avoid main dealers, find a good merc specialist and go from there. Nick Webster is a top guy a bit far from you but very good at his job.
