There’s been a poverty spec white Escort estate up for sale for £19k, I think the only original extra they mention as a sales point is rear seat belts. :dk: .....

Some examples of what I see:

1994 Bargain not to be missed For Sale | Car And Classic
1985 C AUSTIN MAESTRO 1.3 500 L VAN For Sale | Car And Classic
1983 AUSTIN MAESTRO 1.3 BASE - JUST 43,000 MILES FROM NEW !! For Sale | Car And Classic
Ford Escort XR31, incredible condition 43k miles For Sale | Car And Classic

XR3i for £12.5k? WTF? They were sht at the time. What makes them worthy of that asking price now...

"Fast Fords" have a very strong following, similar to VWs and BMWs.

Never got it myself, even less so at the crazy prices being asked ..... and achieved ... yes, nice XR3i's DO fetch around the £12K mark.

Stuart

I could understand it if it was something special like Cosworth Sierras RS500s / Sapphires / Escorts - albeit more than £12.5k.

A boggo 3i though...

Mine was shyte in the late 90s and I doubt they've improved over time.

I guess nostalgia can be expensive!

It's a common misunderstanding to think that an advertised price means something will sell or has sold. The owner of Reading Football club made his millions from people paying £70 to advertise their cars at prices that wouldn't sell.

A £750k Aston Martin DB5 is a thing of beauty, but that asking price is really only in the mind of the advertiser.

I sometimes have a mooch at some of the more popular models from years gone by on C&C, AT etc. and some of the prices being asked are staggering.
Does anyone really buy any of these cars...

Was just having the same conversation to my brother about the price of XR3i's. Agreed they were sh1t cars then and are still sh1t now. I didn't buy one when they were buttons & as sure as sh1t am not going to buy one at anything north of buttons. What idiot buys this crap.

You can get an E55K for the same or less. I know what I would rather have! Oh...I've got one!!

Maserati QP V's are the same money as are tons of other nice fast big motor's. I'll take all of these over a crappy XR3i every day of the week.

The CL63 is indeed silly money but there are a ton of niche dealers taking punts of some idiot paying over the odds for modern classics. Big bubble being created IMHO. Nothing short of a ponzi scheme.

Indeed the CL 63 is a rare beast, but a good low mileage 55 or 65 is a better car and more modern (facelift) Love the colour though...stunning.

Exactly... only eBay shows "sold prices" but you don't know exactly what was paid or even if the car sold at all, but rather was shill-bid until it didn't sell by overly-greedy people.

Unless you sell a car like that yourself and get these ridiculous prices... who knows.

But as Swotty states, XR3is at £12k do apparently seems to sell.

So I can only surmise that the prices being asked are not meaning cars aren't shifting at these prices - although how many are sold is difficult to know accurately of course.

I wonder if people see many adverts for a car they might have nostalgia for, so say a few 1.3 Maestros in sht brown at £5k each and think "yes, that must be worth that".

What something is worth is obviously subjective but if people are really paying this kind of money for sht like this, as you state Rockits, it's a bubble waiting to burst.

It all makes this CL65 look like a bargain: 33k miles for £42k

Nice clean car and low mileage too, but the price. Just confirms my reservations about the market at the moment, but as has been said asking price, whether it actually sells is another matter.
I have a friend with a nicely restored Ferrari 328 and I keep saying sell it now, then buy it back for a whole lot less.

Same colour as my '600 .. and I was looking at those wheels - which also come in silver - and wondering if the black really suits the body colour ... opinions?

I don't think so, but I'm not a fan of black wheels anyway.

Stuart

Those are standard 65 wheels I think. Centres should be anthracite grey...unless it's just a bad pic

If he needs a V12 cluster, i can sell him one. I have 2 V12 parts cars sitting in my storage unit. 2003 and 2005.

Bit of an odd one this V12 ‘63 - in my opinion a low mileage mint ‘65 would be a better (and I use this world loosely) “investment”.

Engine choice aside, the 215 really is a beautiful piece of metal, they have such a colossal presence.

I want a parts car for mine...but it's a pre-facelift so I'm also out.

I believe it needs a v12 AMG cluster, probably have more luck winning the lottery!
