I have a 2002 SL500 and bought the much nicer 3 spoke 2009 R230 steering wheel/airbag.
Obviously the wheel buttons don't work...
The car has the "flat stepped" 3 pin bus connector, and my new airbag has the square 3 pin connector.
I bought the little "bus converter" box with 5 plugs to see if that worked,
It didn't..
I also tried to swap pin 1 and 3 in the connectors.. didn't work
I tried to plug the wire from the car in the middle connector in the "bus converter" and the wire to airbag/switch unit in the plug beside it, and visa-versa.. didn't work
When the plug from the clockspring is connected to "plug 4" in the "bus converter" the horn is on permanently ??
So... before I go crazy in my workshop and swap the internals from the old steering wheel switches to the new one..
Have any of you guys done this swap ? did you get it to work ?
I have also sent this in a mail to Richard, lets see if he chimes in.
