Hi Guys, newbie here and first post.
Hope some of you bright guys can help resolve. The tailgate lock on my 2003 Estate E270 is soft closing, you slowly click and then the motor kicks in and pulls the tailgate so it closes. A week ago this 'pulling in' mechanism has stopped working and now I have to 'slam' shut the tailgate. This makes an awful racket and most recently took more than 5 attempts for the tailgate to close and avoid the computer showing me red warnings.
Took to a independent specialist MB garage and to replace the tailgate lock its going to cost about £400 !!!! Almost collapsed there. I am not using the boot at the moment for fear of this not closing again or me doing further damage!!
Any ideas how I can either bypass the mechanism and still close the boot without breaking anything or get a cheaper part. Am I wasting my time hunting for a cheaper solution or will I really have to bite the bullet and spend £400 that is hard to come by.
Cheers.
