2003 SLK R170 steering knock

Hello Folks,

Has anyone come across the following please?

If when sitting stationary in my 2003 SLK 230 R170 *sometimes* I can feel a slight knock when I turn the steering wheel. Again *someimes* I can feel the said knock through the steering when turning into a corner.

Not ideal, but hopefully it'll continue to go round corners.

Any wise advice gratefully received.

Get it on a lift and make sure the steering system/suspension is checked over first.

This kind of problem is normally caused by the steering rack.

I'm told by the garage who have inspected it that there is nothing lose in the steering.

What is the typical problem with the rack? Sounds like big money to replace.
