Hello everyone.
I have owned my sprinter for about 5 years now. Converted it into a camper and just love it. 124 k miles. It rusts for fun but then I enjoy rectifying it.
However, it has an annoying habit of dropping power accompanied by a loud booming noise (as if the exhaust is blowing) after about an hour of driving or 60 odd miles travelled. Now this suggests to me that the turbo is dumping its pressure to atmosphere (hence the booming noise) and reverting the engine to normally aspirated. It doesnt always do this, and sometimes it will rectify itself on its own. If I stop, put the kettle on and have a cuppa, it will start up just fine afterwards and be ok for a good while. So, could this be the wastegate being temperamental ??
