2005 C220 Diesel Auto - Loss of power and no acceleration

Hi Guys,

I have a 05 C220 Auto Diesel. 98K

I just came back from a short 100 mile trip and the car suddenly lost all of the power.

The car seems to change gear very early. (For example, it will change to top gear when you reach 30mph)

I am now struggling to reach 70mph and when on a steep hill, it will only do 60mph (if I am lucky)

I put my foot down and nothing happens. I try to manually change gear but the revs only stuck at 3000rpm.

Please tell me this is nothing serious? I don't need a new gearbox I hope.

No code or fault on computer.

I need to drive to a 300miles trip next weekend and I was wondering if I should risk it or not.

Thanks

I drove my car this morning to a meeting and the symptoms disappeared but it came back again after 20 miles :-(
I will take it to the local MB specialist tomorrow and will know more by Thursday. This is a continuous problem I am afraid. Hope the MAF is not too dear. Thanks for the quick response. I will let you know as soon as they have look at it.

Yep definately sounds like a MAF failure. Mine did the same, no boost, and limp revs only. Intermittent on ignition on/off. Cost me about £60 IIRC, and my indie didn't charge for labour, as it was 5 minute job to replace.

Remove your engine cover, I reckon your boost hose is split, ;)

It will be on the right hand side as you are looking at car.

Look for oil residue/sooty near the pipe.

Also a possibility, you may need you're fuel filter changed. Fuel starvation caused by a blocked filter will cause the car to go into limp mode.

Best of luck,

Rob

Thanks for the valuable suggestion. My local MB specialist said it's the filter of some sort by the CAT?? Which needs replacing and it cost £600+ vat + 2 hours labour!!! Apparently, it was suggested by the STAR result. Hmm.. not sure if it's true but the fact that I am desperate, I let them do it. I asked if this is 100%, they said it is. My question is: What if this doesn't fix it?? If it's indeed the MAF or just a split hose, can I ask for my money back?? Thanks

Oh, Also, I've been using Vpower Diesel for the past 3 months, would this cause a problem?

hmmm what sort of milage have you done,
it sounds like the specialest is recomending you change the Particlate filter or DPF
Now the only exprience ive had with DPF are on Vans and they are olnly fited to Vito V6s and all viots from 08ish
and all sprinters on 2006 onwards
and normally they seem to need replacing at 120,000
No if not heard of a DPF its a filter in the exhaust which helps lower emissions.
every once in a while it will regenare but eventully it will become full and need replacing,
If your worried that the specailest is pulling your leg call you local dealer and see if your car has a DPF fitted
