2006 cls500
Hey guys. My first post on this forum, just wanted to say hello to all you good people.

I have a problem with my 2006 CLS500.
Yesterday i got to work, shut my vehicle off and light off, I get out of the car and I see my tail light (bottom part right light) won't turn off. I went back in, started it up, got message on dash: "Display Malfunction: contact service" or something like that. Turned my light on and off and the part was still on. I ended up pulling the carpet off and unplugging the right tail light to keep it off so my battery wouldn't die. Well sometime at night I noticed my left bottom tail light was flickering and blinking every now and then. When I got out of work in the morning, I went to use the fob to unlock the car but fob was not working. When I click the buttons, the little red light on the fob light up but no reaction from the car. Good thing I left it unlocked. I then tried to open the trunk with the button from the inside, using the fob, and also just by pulling the handle up physically and it wouldn't open. I had to take the physical key out of the fob, insert it in the key hole, and pull the latch to open the trunk. Any ideas what the heck is going on? Please let me know.

Ps also notified blinkers now working

Hello and welcome.

First port of call on a car of this vintage is the notourious alarm sounder . Find it and unplug it , the cheapest and easiest MBenz electrical fault find ever.

Might not be the fault but a pretty easy DIY . It usually sits behind a metal cover behind the LH wheelarch liner (might be RH on a LHD car) . It has no fuse and diconnecting the battery will not help as it has its own batteries...which are usully the problem at this age.

It might not be this at fault , but I hope it is as its an easy fix.

Good luck 👍

Any help?
Lol to the previous comment, I don't even know what are you taking about. Alarm sounder?

The siren that the alarm activates and makes all the racket.

It's electric (obvs) and can create a drain or glitch in the system.

Probably not the issue, but could be and a place as good as any to start is what is being suggested

No alarm going off tho, no siren.

Got all these codes. Still can't open the trunk with remote, no blinkers, right tail light out, left tail parking light stays lit (even when lights off), windows don't automatically roll down a crack when opening the doors like they used to, also no rear defroster. It feels like it's all connected somehow. Electic issue?

I've checked the battery, it's good, also the boot area is Lil moisture, some exposed wires

Its very likely to be a faulty rear SAM unit.

The indicators flashing is probably related but it could be a faulty alarm siren.

So we replaced the sam module and everything seems to be back on, got rear light on, trunk opens, alarm works, blinkers, Windows roll down, defrosters and all..we found corrosion and moisture inside he sam.

Good job 👍

But never discount the alarm unit when searching for electrical gremlins . No , it does not sound but it can feed current back into the car via its own batteries causing all sorts of oddball faults. My experience on a relatives 2006 W203 C class was that the hazard lamps would just start flashing at any time of night or day .

Disconnected it and the faults went away.

As I suggested,it's a common problem Now to trace the water leak 👍
