Here's hoping somebody can make sense of it all! :)

FWIW, when I moved the car this morning, there was no oil underneath, yet yesterday, after it had a good run, there was.

Oil may be from leak before fix which had accumulated in belly pan maybe? The round black thing in the picture is the oil separater iirc

I did wonder if it was 'old oil' but would have thought that the garage might have cleaned the engine bay to make it easier to spot any on-going issues?

I did notice on one of the pics. 084134 the jubilee clip and around the plastic black and orange seal it was still quite dirty and no effort of cleaning has been attempted?

Just makes me wonder if it has all been changed as on the 2006 model V6 you should get a warning light on the dash for the swirl motor problem?

Although now fixed what did they fix?

I don't know if anyone has ever tried cleaning the clip or seal.

It was the inlet port motor that was replaced.

Yes, what I think Keith is saying is; the clip and section would have had to come off to replace the port shut off motor, as it is directly underneath. With the amount of build up showing around the clip and the seal, it looks like it hasn't been touched for quite some time now.

Deep in the V is an oil cooler. Awkward to get to, and awkward to diagnose. We certainly had oil pouring out of an engine when this failed. From memory it appeared towards the front, after following a channel.

Well, after a few days keeping a look out for oil leaks, I haven't spotted anymore, and the smell has definitely gone.

So, now the only issue would appear to be the high pitched noise, almost like a whistling kettle. It seems to happen under the initial loading under acceleration. I'm wondering if it might be the turbo? I don't know if it is just a coincidence that it happened after the original repair job, or if something has happened as a consequence of what was done? The noise is less since the oil leak was rectified, but is there still, and also seems worse when the car is cold, as in just starting a journey.

Any ideas, folks?

Stupid question maybe, but how do I tell which ones those are?

Also keep an eye for any hissing noises throughout the rpm speeds.

On another comment, my guess for the strange sound would be something to do with your turbo.

Where abouts are you located? Tbh you need to take your car to a good MB Specialist, ideally one recommended on this forum. Hopefully it's a cheap fix, as you just sorted out the inlet motors and your car now drives fine, except that noise issue you have.

I'm on the south coast.

The repair work was done by an indy that has always served me well on repairs. Turbo is my suspicion, which is kind of worrying. How could it start making noise after being removed to repair the inlet motor?

The noise does seem less pronounced at present, largely happening at the lower end, e.g. pulling away in traffic.

Might be a silly question but when your turbo was relocated back into position after your swirl motor was repaired/changed did your Indy use new gaskets/seals/o'rings where the turbo reconnects. does your invoice show anything with regards to turbo bits)?

They put new gaskets somewhere, and then had to replace them again after the first effort leaked oil.

Not sure of any reputable MB Specialist in your area. Hopefully someone else can suggest a Specialist - if you are happy and trust your garage then great but maybe it's worth getting another opinion.

What are the garage guys saying? Surely there's a connection with the repair job and the noise issue?

They're saying that they don't know why it should be doing it and to monitor the situation to see if it changes. As the oil leak seems sorted, and the car is driving alright, they don't feel the need to be too concerned.

Personally speaking I think they are trying to let this one go without addressing it. Any strange noise is not something to ignore and 'monitor' especially if it's to do with the turbo as more damage may be caused if left just to monitor it.

I would highly recommend another opinion, even going down the MB stealership route if convenient location wise (I know they charge like money is no object) but at least you can find out the issue. They'll most likely charge £100 odd quid for a STAR check then further diagnosis at their hourly labour rate.
