yet another fault on our car, love it to bits but am getting fed up now & wondering what else will go wrong on it. just over 4 years old with only 28k miles & this will be about the 10th issue with 'something'...:(

had a search on here & it seems a common issue, before i take it anywhere & get charged an arm & a leg, can someone give me a little guidance as to what i look for myself in the way of loose connections?

i've just had a quick look under both front seats & can't see anything amiss, checked all the connectors i could see/feel to see if they feel secure.

help! :o

Does it come up as soon as you press the brake pedal? I had that issue on my SLK350, it affects a fair few cars!

If it is the faulty wiring loom, it's about 1-2 hours work, parts cost about £50 in total.. rest is labour.

You need to get the codes read... preferably with STAR, but some low-cost generic readers such as Autel Maxidiag can read MB SRS codes.

In my case it was the Front Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor that was playing up and it was duly replaced by Olly PCS.

it comes on as soon as i start the engine.

it did it for the 1st time when i'd just had the drivers seat tipped forward to get something in the back. also, the 'butler' (don't laugh, i'm sure you know what i'm talking about! i always say "thank you jeeves" when i'm passed the seatbelt :D) isn't passing the seatbealt forward on the drivers side, but is working ok on the passenger.

i'm a bit suspicious this is a loose connection on the drivers side, what do you think?

Yeah the butler is always great, apart from when he tries to strangle you on tightening the belt up!

Sounds like a loose connection but either way for something like that I'd go to an indie rather than a main dealer if the car isn't in warranty?

nope, not in warranty. i'll assume the upside down hanging about position tomorrow to see if i can find anything, then i'll be off to an indie if i have to.

thanks :)

I had similar issue twice with mine a few years back, 1st time it was a loose connection under drivers seat, you need to look from the back of the seat as if you are sitting in the back seats, look for a small yellow connector with brown wires I think and check this, the crimped wire in the connector was the issue with mine not making contact with the conector pins, 2nd issue was the drivers seat belt buckle, the fixed recepter near the centre armrest, both these issues stopped the seat belt presenter working and srs light on dash.

brilliant! just the sort of info i was looking for :thumb: thank you!

if anyone else with experience of this would like to add, feel free!

*rant mode engaged* can't understand why i should have to turn into a detective to try & locate this if it is just a loose connection, it's not a Fiesta that costs £10k after all! :wallbash: *rant mode dis-engaged

it's not just MB though, we discovered an obvious design flaw on our gas fire at the weekend, the battery pack needs to be replaced every year & the cable that connects to the pack is so short, there is very little chance of getting your hands into the available space & fiddling to get the blooming thing connected. you can't even see what you're doing or which way it should connect, this little bit of plastic about 1cm in size.

after about 40 mins rolling around on the floor, it was decided that the fire will now be manually operated! (i'm pretty sure that 1 of the wires into the connector has come loose now anyway, so even if we could connect the new battery, it wouldn't work...*sigh*)

Did you manage to fix this?

sorry Dave, didn't notice there was another post in this thread until now.

no, still the same. by a process of elimination, i'm 99% sure it's the drivers seat occupancy sensor that's amiss. i'm just looking on here now to see if any previous posts can point me in the right direction.

edit: & here's my probable answer, doesn't look like it's one of the connectors you can see under the seat & not a DIY fix for us (hopefully changing the car soon now anyway)
