Hi,

I am new to the forum as well as MB.

I was fed up with PMW booking xmas parties from my repair costs even though it had only done 81k.

I have bought a 2007 E220 CDI Diesel Auto. and very nice it is too.

All mats, ashtrays, fire extinguisher and first aid kit have been removed, maybe from the dealer or previous owner.

I have a question if anyone has the time to answer please.

My steering wheel has the phone answer/hang up buttons.
My dash has the Phone keypad and circular controls below that.
My center console has a blanking plate at the bottom with no cradle.
Below the blank base plate I have found 3 sets of cables passing below, all have a join plug exactly in the center of the access area.

My questions are:

1. Is this the required wiring I can tap into for a phone Cradle ?
If not what am I looking for?

2. Depending on wiring what do I need to connect my IPhone please ?

Thanks

Hi and welcome!

Even with the phone answer buttons etc, this does not neccesarily mean that you have the inegrated phone wiring - check with the dealer who will be able to tell you. Look in the armrest - is there a connector in there? I think the armrest is a "butterfly" opening (as opposed to hinged from the back) if factory fitted

If you do have it, someone will be along to give advice on what to do. If you don't then someone will also be along to advise - but a retro install of the MB wiring is Mucho Expensivo (big style!!) so that advice will probably what you can do with an after-market kit.

Thanks.

Dont suppose anyone has any details so I can make and install the wire kit myself ?

Willing to bet this is either not possible or so cost prohibitive as to be worthless. Sorry if that sounds negative, but MB take costs and/or complexity to a new level sometimes!

Best bet is to contact member Alfie at [email protected] Alfie is a longtime member and a lot of people will vouch for his work and his pricing. You'll not be able to PM until you have 30 posts

Take a look at this post which gives some ideas

And if you do do it, would be great if you could post a thread with details so others do not have to go through the same learning curve. That is one of the things that make this the Best Forum Ever!

This sounds like you actually have the UHI kit with the UHI connector plug cap. Have you checked how the UHI connector looks like (from older posts)?

You might not need more parts than the cradle or BT adapter.

Thanks Gollom and Diesel benz for the replies.

I have not found any pictures yet on what I should have/need.

The 3 sets of cables pass underneath the pull out blanking plate, they have male/female plugs inline heading towards the rear of the car.

There is no open/unused plugs that can be used.

This means either the existing cables just happen to run through the area and have joins at that position, or maybe the plugs can be pulled apart and used on cradle, not sure.

This is what the connector in your armrest should look like. If you dont have this I very much doubt that your car is wired for UHI phone connection. If you want it done Alfie can do it but expect an eyewatering price as it is a massive job.. You may be better off looking at some other solution.
