2007 ML 4x4 or 4x2

I'm thinking about getting a 2007 ML350 - Canadian Spec - and when I popped the VIN of a few cars I was interested in into the Russian MB VIN decoder this appeared and is now confusing me a bit.

840elimination of all-wheel drive 4 x 2 (for cross-country vehicles only)
dark tinted glass (с 01.10.1994)


anyone any idea what thos means?? I thought all MLs were pemanent 4wd / awd .

Just went on to the MB USA site and found out that 4WD is a $2,500 option on the ML.

I did the same a few days ago with the R320CDI I just bought and it comes up with that same option coding on the VIN check which confused me too. Mine definitely has four wheel drive, even down to the 4-Matic badge on the back.

I think to gain 4x4 you need the 4matic option? otherwise it's just a large softroader...

blimey, thanks for that, . I had an ML in the UK and I'm fairly certain it was 4wd - didnt know the north american market gave the option - something to watch for - that would possibly explain why some were cheaper than I thought they should have been .
