Hello

I have a 2007 ML320 CDI which has around 65k from new genuine with full MB history. Now over the last sort of 6 months i have had no boost what so ever. Been into MB and they say the turbo needs replacing. Now heres the thing, every now and then the car is fine and i get perfect boost but then it goes back to a drive with no turbo. I'm not convinced the turbo is at fault

Can anyone help me on this? I bought this car brand new and its really a shame it is doing this.

No smoke, warning lights or anything.

Really would appreciate your help on this

Olly (BlackC55) has a sticky on what to check on a cdi engine that has loss of power. If nothing conclusive, get it on STAR to see what codes are being thrown up

Thanks for the response mate.

Don't suppose you recommend a merc specialist in the Yorkshire are I can use?

For any work I can't do myself, I've used Rodley Motors in Bradford for over 30 years.
Phone: 01274 688968
I bought my second MB from the owner there and I recommend them.
They are not the cheapest - But they are good motor engineers with good technical depth.
Ask for Richard.
Tell him John pointed you to him.

My 320 cdi CLS had a new turbo at the same mileage for the same problem. It was the boost control valve unit but this was apparently part of the whole turbo unit so cost the previous owner a grand in parts alone. I suspect someone will Know how to fix these control units without that expense!

My 2009 E280 CDI (3 ltr V6) has just had a new turbo fitted to cure exactly the OP's problem ... Intermittant boost failure.
Sometimes the engine diagnostics warning light would come on - But not always.

You might have to bite the bullet !!

You got a new motor John? Have I missed something whilst I've been away?

I can second Rodley Motors in Bradford but recently I have been at PE German Marques at Barnsley with an intermittent fault on my daughters VW beetle they had some serious high end MB's in whilst I was there and boy do they know there stuff

Incidentally it will be the turbo that's gone with those symptoms best place for a new or reconditioned one is AET Turbos at Normanton cheap as chips from there with fantastic warranty when I was in the trade we used to get all our turbos from there

I certainly have.

2009 E280 CDI Sports Auto Estate ... 3.0 V6
I'll tell you the story on Thursday.

And ... As you know ... It now has a new Turbo ... Thanks to Jay at Mercland.

Shireen will be with me.
I'll update the "Events" thread.

I'd also better update my Forum details.
