2007 SL350 High Mileage?

Can you read what it says? It doesn't look like BG Griffiths to me...

I'd want to see the invoices, or the entries in the service book, with the servicing dealer's or specialist's stamps; a manuscript list proves nothing whatever - you could knock that up yourself in two minutes...

The name is against the 'unverified' service, so why is it unverified? Can you Google the garage to check it actually exists?
I see what you mean

I know BG Griffiths exists, and they are indeed MB specialists, but what does that note actually read? It's fuzzy, but it looks like INDSPSNDSN5 to me; definitely not B G GRIFFITHS...

🤦🏻‍♂️ Of course. Independent! 👍🏼
It’s obvious now. 😁

I’ll (hopefully) get a better idea on what they actually have when I go in tomorrow.
Thanks for all the help. Really appreciate it.

It's a complex, expensive to maintain high mileage 15 year old car. Personally I'd be more worried about the condition than about whether it missed a service in 2015 or not.

These are starting to rust quite badly now, have you checked for accident damage ? That is what I'd be looking for. Also get it on a lift, at that mileage it will likely need work on bushes, suspension, struts and so on. Expect quite a few hidden horrors, do not accept the sellers word on condition, they have a vested interest in selling the vehicle.

Off to do that this morning. 👍🏼

Any ideas with these errors? I cleared and they came back up.
Walk away?

If there are camshaft position errors, I wonder whether they could possibly be linked to balancer shaft problems? Same general area... Try Googling the error codes and 'balancer shaft problem' in the same search, and see what if anything comes up.

Unless somebody comes up with a possible explanation for the codes that doesn't involve the balancer shaft problem, I think I'd walk away.

What did you decide buddy ?
I’ve decided to walk from this one.
I spoke to the previous owner who was really helpful, and whilst he didn’t have those error codes, said he had enjoyed the car and was sad to say goodbye to it, camshaft sensor errors give me the heebie jeebies.
I am still tempted to go back and just check and clean the sensor connectors, but then think it’s unlikely. If it weren’t for having spoken to the previous owner and getting his views on the car I really wouldn’t still be thinking about it… 🤔

Going to see another on Monday which sounds promising. Taking my neighbour who volunteered to come along and help me so I don’t end up with a lemon. He’s a top engineer at JLR SVO… I watch YouTube videos.

Ask him why Range Rovers are so unreliable and expensive
Haha!
I’ll probably wait until he’s helped me out before I start with any controversial grilling. 😁

I was out with him in the new LWB SV a few weeks ago and that thing was a beast. Beautiful to be inside but certainly wouldn’t want to own one on the wrong side of warranty.

There's no 'of course' about it. Five years and thirty thousand miles without a service (2012-2017) is quite a long interval, and if there's no evidence of that 'unverified' service, it could be seven years and fifty thousand miles . Unlikely, but not impossible

On the other hand, it could be that between those years it was owned by someone who did his own servicing. What HPI-style check have you done? Pay for a TotalCarCheck, and you will get among other things a record of plate changes and ownership changes, which might give you some indication.

On the good side, the previous owner has obviously spent some money in the last couple of years, and it is reasonable to assume he/she had everything done that needed to be. There's one little thing that might not add up, though; if it had new wiper blades in July 2020, why did it need them again in October 2021 a few thousand miles later?

The tyres should all be good, ditto the front brakes at least. The PSE pump is a good thing to have had done; the vacuum system on the R230 is often irritatingly troublesome, and if it plays up it can wear out the pump seals.

The gearbox should be fine.
I spotted the wiper blades too, seems a bit keen to replace them so soon but who knows why?

I’m bemused by the replacement “rear stop/start battery” at £118. Maybe a simple typing mistake but my SL350 definitely only stops and starts on the ignition key. Makes me wonder how much they understand the car’s technology?
