My drivers door window has developed a fault which I cant trace. When I open the door the window lowers a couple of millimetres as it should. the fault is when I close the door the window often just wont go back up.(it does sometimes - very temperamental!) Also when it does 'lock' down the few mm, the door switch will lower the window but not raise it.
The passenger side is fine. I've had the motor checked and its fine.
Any ideas???

Have you tried a battery reset? It being tempermental sounds like its some software bug maybe?

I'm not too clued up on SLKs unfortunately. Hopefully someone else will be along with some more SLK specific info

Reset it perhaps ?

I had the exact same problem on my CLS. The driver's side window decided to stay a wee bit open. All the other windows were OK.

I did the 'limits reset' on the window.
Fully lowered and held 'down' button for 5 seconds
Then fully raised and held 'up' button for 5 seconds

It worked ok - and still fine (4 weeks later).

Worth a try ?

Thanks for that reply. The only issue with that is if i lower the window it wont go up at all for some time. The time varies but last time I tried to lower it it froze 'down' for two days and then worked again for a little while. Presently it is 'stuck' 5mm down; I know it will go easily go down but wont go up after!

Hmmm .... a window stuck down in this weather is not a great proposition:-(
Also, it looks like you are having a different problem to what I did. My window moved fine, it's just that it got 'stuck' a little bit open when the door was shut (but was moving freeley to bottom/top with the door open).

I can only speculate - but it is a simple mechanism. Motor and window mechanism.
If you're hearing any scratching or tearing noises, then the window actuator mechanism may be the culprit. If the motor will not kick in then it could be a lazy motor or a lazy switch.

I've had the window mechanism replaced (twice - seems to go every 4 years or so) and it is simple to do - and there is another thread in this forum where a member has provided an excellent guide on how to do it yourself.

But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here.

What are the 'other' symptoms ? - We can work on a process of elimmination (and I'm sure others will chirp in as well)
