Hi all,had a problem with my key, when in the on position before turning engine over all the dash and lights were working, when I turned the engine overy everything stopped working, indicators, lights on dash,Rev counter and speedo, after a while I decided to try my spare key, this has worked but the central locking now decides to work when it wants.
I’ve put a new battery in the fob and the little led flashes when pressed so it’s sending a signal. The interior light will sometimes stay on when the key is removed indicating it could be something to do with ignition switch?
Also how do I go about fixing the other key? Thanks in advance, mike

Do the indicators flash to show locked when locking with the fob?

Hi,yeah they used to,it doesn’t seem to be working at all now,can still do it from inside on the dash

If it's locking from the dash my thoughts that a door might not be seen as closed by the vehicle aren't relevant, I think.
I've had issues where the Viano won't lock the rear doors because one hasn't closed fully, but the failure of the indictors to flash 3 times is my warning it's not locked.

To ' maybe' eliminate you can spring the locks to closed with a screw driver while the door is open, then try the fob.

Also the battery has drained, the interior light doesn’t come on when the ignition is turned off after driving, something to do with ignition?

I'm sure you've tried the switch on the light.
When I've had issues with interior lights it's been the SAM, the inside rear lights especially.
It's worth a check that the under bonnet fuse box is sealed, mine had warped when I bought it and the front corner had dropped, any moisture in there and the SAM can play up.
The Vito / Viano are a nuisance for water coming off the below wiper scuttle and running down the inside of the wings instead of out the drain as designed.

Oh, a simple test for your key/s,
point the fob at a digital camera, your mobile will do,
looking at the fob on the screen when you press the fob, lock or unlock, you should see a light on screen,
invisible to the naked eye.

It’s recognising they the doors are open/shut as the’door open’ light on the cluster goes on and off when opening/closing all the doors ?

Tried the thing with the camera, can’t see anything when depressing the buttons only the red led

Looking at the end of the fob, the bit inserted into the ingnition, you whould see a purpleish / white LED type of light through the camera, if not then it seems there is no signal from your fob/s.
You can go close up to the drivers lock with the fob and hold against the black square receiver, it should lock / unlock from that also.

No,can’t see anything,and it doesn’t have a sensor in the handle,it’s very annoying [emoji85]

I assumed yours is a 639, an I wong?

Maybe chek the nearside door for the sensor,
about 10mm square.

Will do tomorrow [emoji106]

I’m thinking could it be the ignition still being in the on position why it won’t lock? I’ve noticed the 12 volt socket will stay on when the key is out, before I had the issue when the key was taken out if I had anything plugged in there it used to turn off [emoji848]

It sounds like something isn't dropping out,
I would have thought the radio would still be live, even a flat battery??

I’ve had a flat battery but unsure whether I’ve left something in the 12 volt socket or interior light on ,the radio isn’t live nor the glove box light(which is where I power my radio from, not sure if it should come on when door is opened but the lcd display with mileage on doesn’t light up when I open the door, btw thanks for the help really appreciate it[emoji106]

I'm not helping much, if any, unfortunatley.

Yep open my drivers door and the LCD comes into life, and if set for it the front interior light lights up, and the rear lights also 'I think'.

I can check later when the Viano isn't buried in so much snow but will see if the key inserted, but not turned provides power to the lower dash cig lighter, but i don't think that's powered until the key is turned.

It 'might' be worth you giving this chap a call for some input,
if you need a new lock mechanism it is associated to other kit as wel and he may well be the one to fit and programme it all for you

All inside lights come on when unlocking,
so it seems yours isn't seeing the unlock signal? Assuming the lights are set correctly.

Let the lights go out and then open the door and only the front interior light comes on, and the LCD comes to life,
insert key but not turn and radio on,
turn key and front cig lighter is powered.
