2009 S211 e-class estate - MB cross bars fit

Hi

Recently bought a S211 E320 CDI sport - loving it.

I picked up cross bars (roof rack) last week for
dealership (B67812139).

I went to fit them yesterday and the bars (I started with the front ones) appear too narrow for the car. I have opened up the Allen bolt plenty but they won't sit down onto the roof bars. I'm very reluctant to try force anything - feels like the cross bars would be pulling on the roof bars excessively if I tried to tighten.

Any advice? Is there a chance this is wrong part number or am I doing something wrong?

I have a C class estate, with the sort-of oval roof bars, original Mercedes parts - I guess E class kit is similar?

There is just 10mm of sliding adjustment in the black fitting either end of the aluminium extrusion, that's all.

As I recall the front is different length to the rear as the roof tapers from front to back, so without being rude - are you sure you have them the correct way round!?

Otherwise you possibly have C class bars, not E - take 'em back!

Just another thought, due to the clamping nature of the bars over the roof rail, there is a 'tip at an angle' approach to getting them on sometimes which does require the jaws of the roof bars to be opened apart - 35mm in my case.

I use a cordless screwdriver with allen key bit in it to do quick opening-up and closing...ALWAYS CHECK TORQUE ON THE NUT BY HAND THOUGH before slapping a heavy roofbox on top
