Hi folks, I had an mot advisory for both my front shock absorbers lower bushes on my 2009 R230 SL350 being slightly worn (I guess they mean the ball joints) Apparently, the shock absorbers and coil over springs are fine. So my question is can the lower ball joints be replaced? They look like they may be pressed in but I’m not sure. Seems an expensive fix to change the whole shock absorber to sort out but if that’s the only option, are there recommendations for replacement shocks? MB original parts are, I think A230 320 1413 and quite expensive so a good quality aftermarket would be a more desirable choice. TIA..

Have a look at AUTODOC for Lemforder as a brand

Just checked After removing front wheels and the front strut part number is A230 320 9813. I’ve been told the only OEM shock absorber replacement available (other than Chinese imports) are Bilstein 24-217552 shocks. Can anyone confirm these are suitable for the 2009 - 2012 facelift SL350 ?
Ps. What kind of spring compressor would be best to use to change the shocks? They look pretty heavy duty…

I got 2 options , both look like ABC air suspension. One is a ball joint one is a bush. Both probably replaceable items. ??

The best spring compressor to use would be the one at a local garage that is on a stand with a cage around it . A quick chat with a local garage and you might find one who will handle the spring exchange for a small fee.

From what I've seen these need a special mounting jig , it's not cheap neither.
