2010 Mercedes E class service costs

Hi all,

New here so be gentle with me!

I have 2010 Mercedes E class saloon (auto), which needs a B Service. How much would i expect to pay for this from Mercedes approved? I been quoted £350, which seems high for a routine service and no major parts need replacing.

I am based in Birmingham, anyone know any good indies and what the cost maybe?

Car has done 21k miles.

On a side note has anyone taken out the service plan, is it worth it?

Helllo and welcome from sunny Birmingham.

Main dealer servicing isn't cheap. I stick with them during the warranty period then give the car to an independant at c£50/hr (instead of c£110/hr).

If it's MB Central and you bought the car from them ask for a discount on the service - you should get around 10% for asking.

The same applies elsewhere.

MB central gave a discount from £375 to £350, how much more should I be pitching for?

Check that the price includes the brake fluid change and the combination filter. If so, then £350 is about right for a main dealer B-Service.

Watch out for time related items that are not included in the standard service price - dig deep in ESS to find them! As above, 2 years is brake fluid, 4 years air and fuel filters (on my diesel), if yours is petrol spark plugs come in as well.

Looking at the fixed price brochure I picked up last year when I was looking to buy mine, the cost for a B service for an E350 comes in at £326.

This is the published price and I have no idea if any discount could be had.

I do know that prices at dealers vary widely across the UK so I would suggest you call 2 or 3 dealers in your area to compare.

checked with the garage and I dont need brake fluid change and the combination filte.

As car is under warranty, would this be invoked if I went with an Indie garage?

Not as long as the car is serviced according to specification.

If the car is on a lease / PCP contract then check the conditions.

Also if the car is dealer serviced then Mobilo is normally maintained after 3 years (exact Ts & Cs on Mobilo vary according to exactly when the car was first registered). Among other things Mobilo is a premium world wide breakdown recovery service. So if your car hits three years old next year make sure you understand the pros/cons of this.

Had quote for the A service for my w218 CLS, from local MB, managed to get an 8% discount but biggest surprise was their price for the oil - 8 litres £129.50 (incl vat). In addition to discount they said they had no problem me supplying oil as long as MB approved and sealed containers (5w-30 - Low Ash). They confirmed will not affect warranty, Mobilo etc! I can get 10 litres of Mobil 1 (believe easily meets MB approvals) from Euro Carparts for £78 with club discount, so leaves 2 litres for Top ups (or towards next service), they said they would reduce price by the £129!! In the end have read up a bit and gone for 10 litres Fuchs from Opie (very happy to recommend them excellent service) for £81.50 so that's still a £48 saving on the oil alone! (and 2 litres leftover). Still going to use main dealer, supply my own oil, as need some other things looking at. Worth a thought my savings may be better than others due to requirements of oil required for CLS.

anyone know any good Indies in Birmingham. I rang one up which a friend gave to me and they said "go to Mercedes direct as its still under warranty and to come back to them when the car was a few years older!!!

I cant believe you dont need a brake fluid change. It is definitely after 2 years and during the B service, maybe it was done earlier.

I paid c £480 for my B service in December including the brake fluid change.

Check the ESS, brake fluid change and pollen filter change come up for your car on a 2nd year service.

Is this the oil you recommend for an E class, 200, diesel car?

Spoke to another dealer who has confirmed what others on this thread have said around it does require brake fluid change and the combination filter and other garages have given me wrong price.

On an approved used car non dealer servicing invalidates the warranty. On a new car nope under block exemption rules but on a used one it does. £350 isn't bad, just pay it.

I would suggest caution with the "Bring Your Own Oil" thing

So start with, the oil MUST be as per the specification in the owners manual and not just "close enough".

On older cars this is not much of a problem but on some of the modern engines with extended service intervals, the need for synthetic oil of a certain type means that even though the dealer price per litre looks expensive, when you actually come to buy the stuff yourself, the price is not that much cheaper (if there is any saving at all)

I think a lot of us remember when you could get a 5L bottle of Castrol oil for £10 so of course think £8 for a litre is crazy

It's only when you walk into Halfords and look at the cost of some of the brand specific oils that you realise that this synthetic oil can be very expensive especially when you have to buy 10L of it because Halfords only sell it in 5L tubs.

Costsco do Mobil1 Turbodiesel 5l for about £28.

Diesel Engine Oil - Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 0W-40 Fully Synthetic - Mobil 1 UK

If your car has a DPF then you will need one that meets MB229.51 like Mobil1 ESP.

An indie won't be that much cheaper than the quoted price. It's when additional jobs add up the specialist wins but on such a new car on approved used warranty I'd dealer service it
