Just had MOT on my 2010 W204 Cdi estate, and the MOT inspector showed me the rear steel lines and advised me to grease them up before the winter as there was quite a bit of surface rust on them.
He's put it down as an advisory.
Anyone else had this and what would you advise as a coating to put on them?
Just grease?

Bearing in mind I usually do it a few days before the MOT, I coat mine with clear waxoyl which dries off matt and can't be interpreted as a leak. With that treatment my 190e passed MOT'S on the original brake pipes until it was 26 years old.

I've done this before; give them a bit of a rub down to get rid of the surface rust, then used "spray-on grease" to coat them and prevent further corrosion.

If I was a little more committed, I'd probably find some kind of clear waxy coating so that they are clean and shiny (but protected from salt etc).

Annoys me that a manufacturer of quality vehicles uses Steel and not Copper/Nickel alloy.

Just done the same to 2 of our 2010 W212 that are due MOT next month.

Cleaned the pipes up then sprayed with a white spray on grease to protect.
