My car has developed a very unhealthy noise a few days ago. I have stopped driving it. I need to know how to get it diagnosed and to whom it should be taken.
Video/Audio: https://youtu.be/Tlb2OoCpZ9c
SYMPTOMS:
1. When you start the car, from inside the car you can hear an erratic metallic rattling noise.
2. The noise is very loud in when in Park or Neutral.
3. The noise mostly appears to subside when in any gear (Drive, Reverse, D1, D2, D3, D4).
4. There is more metallic sound audible from under the bonnet.
5. The sound appears to get smoother when revs increase to 1500 (while in Park). This may be partly because the regular noise of the engine overpowers the clinkity clank noise but also for sure the noise does not increase with revving the engine more.
6. Using a mechanics stethoscope, it does not pick up much vibration from the top of the engine but a bit more at the rear of the engine.
HISTORY:
Car has 130K on the clock.
It had a Transmission Rebuild done a couple of months ago.
There is also a Timing Chain related recall overdue on it.
I have only had it since a couple of months but engine oil level has been fine.
DIAGNOSES:
1. I have Carly for MB app and the car is clean pulling no error codes.
2. There is no engine warning lamp in the dash.
3. I have been told it could be Injectors, Engine, Flywheel, Transmission.
HELP:
What is it likely to be?
What is it likely not to be?
Who do I get it look at it?
I am based in Southall, West London.
