Very hot day yesterday on Brighton seafront. The Speed Trials started half an hour later after, sadly, a stabbing on Madeira Drive at 0240 closed the road and caused havoc with competitor access. The organising club, Brighton & Hove Motor Club, did a great job to drag the event back on schedule and we had a pretty non-stop day with only a couple of stoppages
The paddock was packed with spectators and there was a big crowd on the road above. The track seemed very grippy but about 100 yards out we had a few cars & bikes get very squirrely, thankfully with no incidents. We had a few 9-second runs in practice.
Unfortunately one of the last bikes to run before the Top Six runoffs blew up and dumped a huge pool of oil after the finish line which led to a swift decision to abandon the meeting. No complaints, though - a well-run meeting with lots of action and a good selection of cars & bikes including Jim Tiller in his Allard
