Im considering purchasing a 2014 E63 wagon which will be due a four year B service soon. It's covered low miles (30k) but I suspect from previous AMG experience, the B service won't be cheap.... What else needs doing at four years old, assuming they need spark plugs at this age and possibly gearbox oil? Although gearbox oil seems a bit soon on mileage alone, if it needs doing per Merc schedule then I'd have it seen to. Any pointers appreciated.

Gearbox is normally 5 years on the newer 7 speed so you may be able to stagger the 2x services, allow £1k and you should be ok..

If you do buy it get a service plan. Between £40-£50 month, a B Service with plugs etc would be £800-£900.

Thanks. It's not a main dealer car, but assume that wouldn't preclude me from buying a service plan? Surely i can't sign up to a service plan on a monthly payment with a B service due very shortly - there must be something in the terms and conditions to stop people buying the service plan and having the service done, then cancelling the plan? Hopefully the dealer selling would be willing to negotiate based on the fact there's a service due imminently.

There's a minimum time lapse between taking out the plan and having the first service carried out under it, but I don't remember what it is - perhaps 3 months? And if you cancel the plan the T's & C's say that you will be charged for the cost of all services carried out, less what you have already paid.

What happens if you wish to sell a car and move to other brand?

I take it you're referring to the situation where you have paid in advance but not yet had a service carried out?

If so, then you have an option to transfer the service entitlement to the new owner (i.e. it is sold with the car) or you can cancel the Service Plan and will be refunded any sum you've paid over and above the cost of the services already carried out under the plan.

Not an identical car but I was quoted £843.00 for service B on my v8 SL and £420 for the fluid change. I was told the service plan can be taken out anytime at £57 p/m over 3 years transferable but considering my next services after the B is 2x A it would work out a little more expensive than pay as you go. Not much in it mind you their calculator takes the expected costs and builds a small amount of interest.

What it does do though is tie you to main dealers so you are precluded from using cheaper specialist independents if you wish or if you do not get on with your local dealer.

Call me cynical but I wonder if they know you are not on a plan and can move your business will they give you better treatment..?

If the plan saves you money it is worth it but do call your nearest MBD and do the maths first.

There may be something in that view; a family member had absolutely dire service from another brand via inchcape service plan - they completely missed the seized brake calliper on a major service and three weeks later brakes failed on holiday. Totally unapologetic and she was treated with complete disdain as they already had her money and she was tied in to using them. She cancelled at a loss and ended up using an independent garage who bother to do actual mechanical work and safety checks.

I've just had the same service done on my E63 with slightly higher miles, PM your email address and I'll scan a copy and send it you later today.

Different car but my last month B service with brake fluid change was quoted £675 by main dealer while indy MB specialist did the work for less than half price. Genuine parts, updated digital service book, Mobilo for a year, warranty.

I bought mine when I was booking my service over the fone. I started off with the A service though. There is something mentioned in the T&Cs about cancelling after you've had a service but I don't have them to hand to let you know the terms.

Where did you take it?

Thanks for the offer Anthony330 but it won't let me PM you due to 'your privacy settings'...

Just had mine done, 4 years B service with plugs, £600. An independent but service record with the factory updated.

Don’t be afraid of independence from dealer servicing, better experience and better quality of work as their reputation is at stake. Also a better price!
If I were to buy a used MB - which I did! An E63s 2014 plate, it didn’t put me off that the service record wasn’t 100% MB. I was just glad that regular servicing had been carried out! There are a few catch-up items that need addressing, but on the whole, I’ve been very pleased thus far
