Hi All,
The missus ran our C250 out of AdBlue, forcing the immobilisation feature and the error message: Eng. start not possible.
I have added around 8 litres of AdBlue but the error message will not go and vehicle will not start. Tried everything I could find on Google / You Tube but no luck. Called out AA and they were unable to reset it either and recommended contacting MB dealership. Has anybody else experienced this and could offer some advice please? I have the car serviced by a local indy MB specialist, but they’re not open until Monday! Many thanks in advance, if anybody is able to help 👍

Yes often.
Using the MB system will allow a Tech to rest it if one comes in dead on the hook!.
For roadside stranding/ call outs & the "Oh Me Gawd" syndrome, we use Autologic scan tools with MB programming which will do the same.
Since it the weekend you might not get too much relief, other than call some well informed Independents (like me & the Mexicans) that can help, you with either scan tool availability.
Jokingly & maybe put a smile on your anxious face maybe !
Being on 24 hours call out in Denver, its a bit bloody far for my tech Armando to visit you, besides Lorena his missus might get pi$$ed with him & give me a bollocking in Spanish.
All the best y buena suerte, andele pues.

My understanding is - turn ignition on , press accelerator until glow plug light comes on; when it stops blinking, turn ignition off, wait 10 seconds, turn ignition on and press pedal 2 times. This should reset things

Easier just to leave her . 😉

Cycle the ign 3 times if the above won't work.

😂 Gracias Tuercas. I wouldn’t wish Lorena’s wrath on poor Armando! Mexican women can be quite scary when they’re angry! 🤬 🤬🤬🥺

Many thanks. I did try this one but no luck 🙁 Thank you anyway 👍

😂 Ahhh, apparently it’s MY fault! I asked her not to drive it under the 100 mile warning (count down starts at 500 miles) until after I’d had the chance to grab some AdBlue from the garage and re-fill the tank. She knew best though and drove it all over the gaff until she had to limp it home 😂 MY fault for not topping it up sooner though (apparently!) 🤷‍♂️😤ps. Tried cycling the ignition a few times but still no luck! Thanks anyway though 👍

If the car was serviced by an MB dealer in the last 12 months, you automatically have Mobilo roadside assistance, the MB tech who will come out will have STAR and should be able to reset the AdBlue warning.

If the car was serviced by an independent specialist who updated the DSB, then it's worth checking on Mercedes me to see if the car has Mobilo cover anyway, because some members here reported that Mobilo cover was reinstated after non-dealer service.

Incidentally.... when the AdBlue level started going low, did you not get a warning message on the dash saying 'AdBlue level low, Engine start not possible in xxxx miles'?

Don't feel bad, it happens all the time.
You can imagine then when its a Sprinter van, and a driver who has ignored the warnings! Then he has to inform his boss that the van is downed & VOR 500 miles away with an urgent cargo onboard! OMG! Fireworks its NOT the 4th of July!! Yet! 👿

I feel your pain buddy. They know best . An admission from a woman is seen to be a weakness ..... 😇😇

Well I'm just baffled by the Adblue saga. Everytime I run low the fault seems to come up and when I filled it it said engine start not possible in xx miles. I took it back to Mercedes while it was under warranty and they have fixed it twice free of charge over the last three years. It happened again this week and they charged me £170 to find out what the problem was and a total bill of £550 when it turned out to be the 'other' adblue part of the system, so not covered by warranty having been fixed in the past. WHAT! No choice in the matter, the mechanic I know who I spoke to said Mercedes Adblue is a nightmare and he wont get involved with it, he always refers back to Mercedes. Although he is happy to do any other jobs and undercuts Mercedes quotes by 30% (still uses Mercedes oil etc). Apparently crystals form and cause problems. And what the dickens is an upstream and a downstream?

Hi Fay,
My problem was finally sorted out by a Mercedes tech, sent by MB. (free if you have your car serviced by a MB dealership). I had added at least 17 litres of Ad Blu and it was still coming up as empty! It took him a while to reset the software and this was only eventually completed once he fought a small hollow tube down into the Ad Blu tank (past an anti syphon system). Then blew down the tube into the tank which moved the fluid around and I guess effectively ‘bled it’. FINALLY the sensor started effectively working again and he was able to reset the non-start feature. I have no idea what type of sensor it is but I wonder if it became furred up, stuck or compromised by crystallised Ad Blu. What ever it was, the tube down into the tank worked a treat. Once the software was reset, it was showing 22 litres present in the tank. I wonder if this solution could help you or any other MB owners who experience Ad Blu problems. Good luck 🤞Rik

Hi I have been following this and similar threads and I have the dreaded countdown with my error not resetting. I have to drive 400 miles tomorrow and have 100 miles left. Mercedes want 174 to fault read and will not reset it. My question is this, if I don't turn off engine will it keep going at 0 miles until I turn off and restart car or will it just cut out ?? I can't imagine it would cut out on motorway ? Thanks for any info

Look on you tube , there's a procedure to override it.

Hi thanks I have tried the hold accelerator method numerous times, it does not seem to work on w205 as numerous others have reported. Also have topdon Bluetooth diagnostic which I have updated and run adblue regeneration with and it claims to work but nothing happens. If I can get it home from where I am it is fine I can diagnose tank, empty, refill and check cable to tank which also appears to be a regular issues on these but need to get home first hence asking if the cutout happens during driving.

Once home local indie will rewrite ecu to permentatly disable adblue warnings...
